"Internet Security 2010" Virus
« on: January 25, 2010, 03:31:41 PM »
I have picked up the "Internet Security 2010" Virus and it has taken over my pc. Right now I am using my OLD (very) pc to come here for help. I see other threads on this particular virus, but as per Corrines instructions, I am starting a new thread. I have started my infected pc in safe mode, but the virus still opens and pretty much takes over. I shut down fast, so not sure what all I can do in safe mode. Where do I begin please? You helped me about a year ago...so I might still have some of the programs you require. I did try to do a malwarebytes scan, but it said I didn't have the program there to use ( I see the icon), so I honestly can't say if it's there or not...can not remember if I removed it....but don't know why I would. Soooooooo help please?

Iowajo, welcome to the forums,

Please follow the instructions at this Bleepingcomputer page.

Once you have managed to run MBAM post the log of that application as a reply here and we will endeavour to assist you if you are still encountering problems.

No where do I see where I do the below action:

# Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok.
# Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.

3. Please download RootRepeal from Here, Here, or Here and save it to your desktop.

Open the RootRepeal icon  on your desktop.
Click the Report tab .
Click the Scan button .
In the Select Scan dialog, check ONLY the Drivers, Processes, SSDT and Hidden Services boxes as illustrated here:

Push Ok

Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok...Please tell me where to do this, as I can not find where to click C anywhere..I'm sorry!
Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
Once the scan completes, push the Save Report button . Save the log to your desktop, using a distinctive name, such as RootRepeal.txt.

Thank you, Iowajo.  I  have modified the instructions to include "If asked to select drives".  Please proceed with the scan and let us know if you have other questions.
