It could have come in from Seagate Free Agent which is my back up pad that I don't keep plugged in or Amazon orSeagate Dasboard which I know I signed in for and have wondered about the wisdom of that as I was told it was something worth having. right...

Hi, Ellie.

We were looking at programs added the last 30 days, attempting to determine the source of the current problems as well as where Funmoods came from again.  You mentioned in an earlier post about a connection to CNet.  Was that for reading stories or downloading a program?  CNet is a known source of Funmoods.

Oh, Corrine,

CNET - i put it on my iPad. I guess I got it from Apple but can't be sure.  A friend told me her favorites when she gave the ipad to me.and I put them on.with her help... and when I backed my PC I had the iPad on the computer to charge.  I saw the CNET go by on my screen as both processes were happening. I wonder if my back up system has the virus.
I have never  attached both the ipad and the back up unit at the same time.

I used CNET to read the latest news on computers.

I am glad you are doing this as an outstanding question left over from this computer fix was
can I transfer a virus to my "Go Flex back up system?" or the other way around.  I have asked it here and on CH and no one answered that question. If you have an answer let me know.  S

I will check back here to see if there are any other questions you have.

Hi, Ellie.

As long as you are just reading computer news stories at CNet, that is fine.

If you back up an infected computer and then restore the computer from the point when it was infected, the virus will be transferred back to your computer.  It is just like System Restore.  A virus in System Restore is harmless unless you restore your computer to that point when it was infected.  However, with System Restore, old restore points are cycled out.

Is your computer back to normal now?

Thanks,

My computer is running however I get lots of cycling or moving circle until it settles to a pointer.  My computer vocabulary is terrible.

So, I did an super antispyware full scan and found funmoods a couple of times with pup.  the date was september 2012.
I think I mentioned here that after this last funmoods of a couple of days ago I still felt there was perhaps more.

Consider how grateful I am that I got Outlook back..the gang was
not sure but I feel very supported with you all.

I am running the antispyware again.

Ellie

Hi, Ellie.

There is another developer who created a tool that has been working well with Facemoods.  Let's see if it finds any remnants.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Disable your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it.  If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

You're welcome.  It won't hurt to do a double-check.  :)

C. I had no luck turning off Microsoft Essentials so I could start this new program.  Odd yet I remember that I had trouble finding it before but I did. I just ran it and it found nothing however, if you use it and can give me the way to turn it off I will be glad to try  your program again.

I did turn off Microsoft Essential by unchecking everything.  I started the download and got 7zip that said it was a compression software.  So I stopped.

Thanks.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_start/turn-off-microsoft-security-essentials-temporarily/817705af-7849-417b-a04d-9abe675f009c

To do that, open MSE and Go to Settings and click on Real Time and then uncheck the box at the top to disable real time. Click on Save to save the changes. It should not be necessary to reboot - you'll know if the MSE icon turns red and the MSE home page also gets a red border instead of the normal green one and says that MSE is not enabled and not protecting your system.

Thanks, Paddy.

When I ran the Junkware Removal Tool to test it, it wasn't bothered by MSE but some security programs may prevent changes, thus the recommendation to disable.

That is great news!  You can delete the JRT from you desktop.  Be sure you have MSE working again.
