Avast & AVG both "running"
« Reply #1 on: July 03, 2006, 05:18:34 AM »
 :D  Hi Tarnak :

Your log shows you have both Avast Antivirus AND AVG running ( resident ) ; on
the Avast Support Forums, this is always discouraged and one, if not more, of
the Expert(s) there have detailed the only way to have both on the computer .
      See : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=21019.msg176137#msg176137 .
      The portion stressed is :
" There is a way to use avg as a secondary back-up scanner (courtesy of Tech) but that would still entail initially uninstalling it.

AVG - As Backup Scanner.
1. Install avast. Boot. Setup all providers as you want/need. Update, etc.
2. Boot
3. Install AVG using a customized install and NOT INSTALLING any resident (not even for the email, or Outlook, etc.).
4. Boot
5. You can set the AVG services to manual to reduce resources use. You can set AVG Control to not alert about the absence of residents, etc.  "

Hi SpiritWind, Thank you for your post.

Initially, I was using only AVG as my resident AV.

I then discovered AVAST thru reading about it in a number of forums and read favourable comments about it, so thought I would try it out.

After, installing Avast I had problems with  constant popups with warnings about the resident protection .  I uninstalled Avg, Avast became the resident Av. I then reinstalled AVG, and since then have had no obvious conflicts.

Perhaps could you upload it please? I can take a look at the file itself. If I can't make any sense of it, I'll ask others if needs be :)

Have you noticed anything strange going on with your computer? (That could make it look as though this file is infact causing problems).

If you could upload that .DLL file using that (browse and select it using the 'browse' button. Hit Upload)

Thanks, got it fine and the file is just one string of data. I also asked around, to quote Bobbi Flekman:

Quote
It could have been created by a program as a means to control access, or something. The file naming might have been done to create a feeling of authenticity...

Really, it's nothing to worry about.
