Hi guys. Me again.

I downloaded Lightshot from cnet.com --a place that I have trusted for safe downloads.  However, when I installed the program,  it also installed the Start Now tool bar and my home page was changed to MSN and my default search engine to Bing.  I did not leave anything checked that should have allowed this.  I uninstalled the program, then removed the tool bar.   The security check scan showd  that Win Patrol had been disabled.  When I enabled it, It asked me to approve this start up program:

c\program files\commonfiles\apple\apple application support \APSDaemon.exe

I did not approve it.

I also notice my Places cleanup  (ff extension) is acting strangely... appearing again and again.

I think I am needing some cleanup. :(

Please help.

(I will also need help to update Java... I can't figure out which version I need.)

Here are my logs:

Forgot to mention that I ran the new windows updates after installing the screen shot program because it did not work properly, and I thought maybe my video driver had an update waiting or something.  (It didn't, but I allowed Windows to update anyway)

The exe file seems to be from Apple Push.   I don't really know why I would be getting that since I don't use iTunes.  Maybe its' related to QuickTime.

Oh, that was not nice!  Not even an "opt-out"?

Yes, the APSDaemon.exe is part of Apple support and would include QuickTime.

Why do you have Java DB 10.5.3.0 installed?

Uninstall Java(TM) 6 Update 27 then go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and select Windows 7, XP Offline, filesize: 16.0 MB.  Save it to a convenient place.  After installation, restart the browser and verify Java has been installed correctly.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.  Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LightShot] C:\Documents and Settings\Helena\Local Settings\Application Data\Skillbrains\lightshot\LightShot.exe Flags: uninsdeletevalue

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

That should do it.  Let us know if you need further assistance.

Yes, uninstall Java DB 10.5.3.0.  If you find you need it in the future for some development project, you can always download the most recent version.

Well, the entry isn't showing now.  If you restarted since uninstalling Lightshot, perhaps that did the trick.

ha. The chances of my "developing" anything are less than none. ^_^

Thanks. I will uninstall that asap.

Thanks so much.   I always feel invaded when stuff like this happens and its so comforting to know that there is help here for me to get things sorted out.

Is there any reason I would need to let that Apple Push program be in my start ups?

I don't use iTunes and QuickTime is only engaged sporadically.

APSDaemon.exe does not have to run on startup.  I disabled it on this computer using WinPatrol ... Display Startup Info, highlight it, click "disable".

Thanks Winchester.

I'll leave it blocked from start up then via Win Patrol. :)
