Extreme amount of adware type popups

My computer has a mind of its own.  I can not get rid of the multiple (massive) web pages and pop-ups.  Please look at the Hijack log below and see if you can assist in any way.  I have also started to receive C++ overrun errors.  I am about ready to make this box a boat anchor or fishing lure in the local lake.  Thanks, Pat

Lets not be to hasty about the boat anchor ;)


It looks like a part of the infection is "hiding" from Hijackthis.  Lets run a different scanning tools before we start the cleaning process

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Hello again Pat

I wanted to let you know there is still more to do.  I am work right now and will not be able to give you the next set of instructions till late tonight or first thing in the morning unless someone else steps in.  Just wanted to give you the heads up.

While waiting for my next set of instructions though I have a question for you.  Did you disable the notification balloon for when your anti-virus is disabled?
