Hello and thanks to anybody who helps me! The reason for my post is that my pc has recently started exhibiting strange behavior, booting extremely slowly, freezing during boot ( both before the window xp logo comes up and during the logo screen as well as at the logon screen).  My pc has also started periodically having "mini-freezes" (2-3 minutes) while logged into windows both running various programs  (but not cpu or ram intensive) and just sitting idle. During these freezes, task manager is accessible and shows minimal cpu and ram usage as well as minimal network usage, but running programs as well as items such as the start menu, "my computer" folder, any other folders etc.  become unresponsive. there also seems to be at times unexplainable excessive hard drive activity. I do frequent scans with spybot s&d and Spyware Terminator as of late, but I do not let either of them run together or while I am not doing an active scan. I recently moved from avg free to Avira Antivir, but I don't think this was the issue because I uninstalled avira and went back to avg to see if that was the issue, no dice there so I got rid of avg and put avira back on. I really don't use other utilities, except, I defrag with diskeeper. If some body could point me in the right direction to solve my issue, I'd appreciate it.

 2.4 ghz athlon 64 3400 clawhammer processor,  I build it 3 years ago. Hard drive is same age, 250 Gb (7200rpm) total, 197 GB in use. I also have a 2nd Hard drive that is 4 months old it is a 500 Gb drive that is used for storage only. I may have fixed my issue, I disabled avira from running any service in win ini, then pc started up and I uninstalled from there. now I am running fine for now. I also removed the crawler toolbar. ( It was a hanger on from spyware terminator.  Do tell if you see something though! Thanks again
