My Childrens desk top appears to developed a virus, it did have window live onecare on it but that is now in active. It will not let me down load any anti viral software or load any via disk. I have just bought McAfee Internet securtity 2010, but it will not load. as i click on play the desk top freezes, it i open up the cd the click on istall it freezes.
it is the same with any online scanner i try and down load. i conacted  McAfee who spent twenty minutes on the phone then at the end told me i had a virus. which is what i told them at the begining. I tried to to a remote link but none of the software will install. i performed a system restore in safe mode but nothing happeded except the clock has altered to the roung time.

please help or advise.

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
  • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
  • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
  • Post the contents of exehelperlog.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com, and should open at the end of the scan)
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Thanks GR@PH;<'S

i have saved it to my desk top and tried to run the program, all that happens is the the timer loading curser appears on my arrow but nothing else. I can not click on any icon in my desktop but can still access the programms through the start menu. ExeHelper does not appear in the Windows task manager either.

i have to restart my computer to access the desktop.

alcon,
See if you can run Windows in Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".
then run exeHelper
NOTE
exeHelper does not install to your PC it will run then leave you a logfile

alcon,
Now that you have managed to run exehelper can you now install your Anti-Virus program ie: McAfee Internet securtity 2010
if not can you runexehelper in normal,
then post the contents of exehelperlog.txt
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together.

Hi Guys

got desperate, so returned computer to factor settings, appears to be working normally and i have managed to load McAfee internet security 2010 on to it.

does this mean the malware has gone or do i need to do any thing else to protect it.

appreciate all of your help
