Windows XP - can not open any .exe, or start in safe mode
« on: May 30, 2011, 03:12:30 AM »
Please help.  I've dealt with this malware before on a different computer, I think, but this time it seems nastier.  It is a fake "Security Protection" scanner that has taken over (Windows XP).  It won't allow me to open anything at all.  I can't open task manager or any programs at all.  I have Spybot and Malwarebytes right there on the desktop, but can't open them. Any time I try to open anything I get an error message saying it the .exe is infected by W32/Blaster.worm and that I should run this fake Security Protection.

I've tried rebooting multiple times in safe mode, but it seems to be preventing that from successfully happening, too.  I get an error message that I can not open in any type of safe mode and when I restart in normal mode it immediately takes over.

Please help.  Thanks.

Hi, jsimas74.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

If you have questions regarding any of the instructions or problems running any tools, please let us know.

Download DDS.scr by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
Link 1
Link 2
  • Double-Click dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal
  • Shortly after two logs will appear, DDS.txt & Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply
