Ad Watch trouble

Hi.... I haven't been here for ages, but unfortunately my computing skills haven't improved much, I've just been lucky and had no problems!

I'm sure this is really basic, but I seem to be stuck in a never ending loop with my AdWatch. I want to change my homepage to personalised version of Google. I set it up and then open my IE settings and click on "use current". When I click on apply both my Spyware Guard and AdWatch don't like it. The SG gives me the option of keeping the new setting, which I select, but I can't figure out how to get AdWatch to let me do it. I've tried unloading AW and doing it (sort of behind it's back!) but when I reload the AW it knows what I've been up to and changes it back again!!! I also tried Tools > Rule Editor and cut-and-pasting the address from the new homepage, but I hadn't really got a clue what I was doing and just ticked both options and pasted the address in both spaces in frustration!

Please tell me how I get round this.....

Have you changed your home page with-in the Ad-aware settings ie: open Ad-aware click on the Settings button (The Gear icon) then click on the Defaults buttonon the left hand side, and change the settings to the one you want then click Proceed button.
Then accept the option when Ad-watch pops up.

Hi again..... Thanks for the advice (and the answer about ZA in the firewalls forum) - I've changed the setting in defaults but I can't see where to let AdWatch accept it. When I click "apply" on the IE settings I get windows from both Spyware Guard and AdWatch. Spyware guard tells me my home page has changed but allows me the option of sticking with the new one, but AdWatch just shows it as a registry modification alert and I'm not sure how I should let AdWatch accept the change. I've tried to attach a .gif image of what the AdWatch screen looks like, but knowing my luck the pic will not come out. All the alerts shown are from where I was just bouncing from SG to AW accepting it on one and trying to get it accepted on the other - as you can see I wasn't taking "no" for an answer!

    Yupper.  That is what Ad-Watch is intended to do.  From the Help file:

    You can lock the startup sections of your registry, block possible and actual browser hijack attempts, block suspicious processes, lock executable file associations, Block malicious cookies, block Pop-ups, and uses the all new CSI technology to protect you from unknown variants as well. Even if Ad-Watch is turned off and something DOES install onto your system, it will recognize it and will kill the process as soon as it has seen it when turned back on. Emphasis added

    Ad-Watch is simply fulfilling the task you assigned it under "Blocking Options" to Block Possible  Hijack Attempts.  Ad-Watch does not know the difference between you making the change and a hijacker. 

    In order to change your home/start page, you will need to do the following:
    • Right-click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
    • Select "Restore Ad-Watch"
    • Make sure you have "automatic" off (red cross)
    • Change your home page
    • Click "Accept" to the Ad-Watch alarm

    Thank you for that Corrine... now you've told me it was really obvious, but I just couldn't see why the AdWatch wouldn't let me do it!

    Cheers once again for explaining it so I could do it without wrecking my computer.....Moose  :thumbsup:

    Now, isn't that the way -- once someone points the answer out we realize it was staring us in the face all along.  Its rather like this Eye Test here at LzD in the "Jokes Forum".  Once you see all the letters, you wonder why you missed them the first time around.  ;)
