I don't know if this thread is meant to receive replies, or just for informational purposes.  But thought I'd add a comment about my experience.  After installing the newest version (free version), I kept having little freeze-ups, which were partly addressed in another thread, but not definitely diagnosed or resolved.  But after watching the Task Manager closely, eventually noticed that ewido.exe was using 2, 4, 8% cpu, during every freeze.  I at first had ignored it because 2, 4, and 8% does not seem like enough to freeze a system, until I realized that just the 2, 4, and 8 cpu was way more than even much, much larger programs were using.  I posted in the Wilders' ewido forum, where it was concluded I don't have enough memory.  However, as I said, I have several much, much larger programs which run without using any obvious cpu.  The bottom line is that once I uninstalled the newest version, the little freeze-ups have stopped completely.

The reason for the cpu usage is far, far beyond my understanding.  I just know that the previous version did not do this, and never caused me a problem...and neither has any other program I have!  So just my 

I was using the free version, with auto updates and real-time protection DISabled.  I don't mean to criticize its quality as a malware scanner, just the cpu use prevents me from keeping it installed.

Uh, I wasn't having crashes.  My system would freeze up for several moments (just enough to annoy me, lol), then resolve itself.  In all cases, the total cpu use and the ewido.exe cpu use were identical (2, 4 8 %).

if a bad app steps on memory used by another app (it shouldn't) it can cause problems or crash the system.
it doesn't take a lot of memory usage to do that; it could be a bit, or a word.

(windows xp, for example, allocates memory to an app; it is the only app that is supposed to use that memory space.  poorly written apps may attempt to write outside of their memory range. that causes problems.)
