I can´t get rid of Kaspersky!
« on: January 15, 2008, 07:20:37 PM »
I have the Kaspersky 5.0 383 and this morning ir was inactive for some reason. I have tried to deleat and uninstall but it says that I can´t that it is running somewhere. (in the background) I tried to deleate the processor space but I can´t cuz it says that it´s running.
To go back in time didn´t help.

What to do?

I have the trial version of AVG running but will that protect me? (it doesn´t have a resident shield but it has self protection)

Sorry about the bad english but, computer terms are hard.
I took the picture that looks like me the most!:) I really do hate virus! I´m thinking of chucking out my (kinda) new computer from the window! (two stories high) :)

It says that I can´t deleate the QMng.i0000 in the Kaspersky quarantine section. That a programm is using it.

Does this mean that it is some type of virus/trojan that has taken over the system?

VirusHater,
Disconnect from the internet and then close down your AVG as it may be monitoring the folder ( Kaspersky quarantine) open your task mamnager and click on the "Processes" tab scrol down till you and end the Kaspersky item then remove the you should be albe to remove Kaspersky and all folders/files.

Gr@ph: I´ll try that when I get home. So you don´t think it could be virus related then? Thanx for your reply!

 :mitch:

Numbnuts: That won´t help when I can´t even open KAV. Thanx anyways:)

I'd stake my life it is not a virus.  More than likely Kaspersky just became corrupted, it happens.

Thanx guys! Now that prob is solved by shuting down AVG and unistalling KAV. I have now the free edition of AVG. BUT it looks like you can´t deleate the scan schedules that take place every day. It´s annoying!

And here is a different problem. Suddenly my email adress doesn´t work. For a couple of days now. I clicked on a link where it said update to the live vesion of hotmail and now it just keeps on loadning and nothing happens. I´ve have had it loading for a long time so. I don´t wanna change my adress cuz I have had it 4-ever.

Anyone here got an idea?

If you go in to options (Preferences) there you will see that there is a TICK in a box that allows it to schedule a scan every day.
you can un-tick it to stop it from scanning every day.
BUT NOTE you are then in control of when to scan.

As far as your hotmail addie not working. Can you sign in to your MSN acount if so log out and clear out your cache folder ie: temporary internet folder There are some free programs that you can use that will do that for you if needed like ;)
CCleaner then retry.

The tick box in the AVG you are refering to I can´t find anywhere!????

And about hotmail:

CCleaner just redirects me to a registry cleaner. Is that the same thing? I tried to mail hotmail helpservice but that didn´t help. They just thought that I wanted to register or something. I have cleaned out what I can find in tempfiles. But how can that help when I am at two different computers. (at home and work)

How do I get to the classic mode?????

Anyone?????

To so back to original MSN Hotmail (The one with free 2GB space )

If you want to revert back to MSN Hotmail, and don’t care whether you have the free 2GB mail space,
click on Options Tab (Top right corner)
You should see
"You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections.
You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail"

click on “Switch to MSN Hotmail” to go back then confirm by clicking on Switch back button.
once you have done you will now see your original MSN Hotmail.
Of cause if you want you ca revert to the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.

Nice car  I´ll try that when I get home.

I did what you said but clicking the "try the classic version" just put me back to either the downloading icon or my inbox. Differs from time to time. I don´t seem to have the option "switch to msn".

I´m clueless ........................ AS U CAN TELL!

This is what I see:

I seem to have "fixed" it now. Stumbling over a option where it asked if I wanted to jump directly to my inbox once I am inlogged. It looks like it works. Here at work. hopefully at home as well. I could never find that option again if I tried. 8)

Thanx for all your effort! Even an instruction video on YouTube. But when it comes to computers I am pretty much  :thud:

VirusHater   :)

It appears you can now login with your preferred address/password, and have made the transfer from MSN Hotmail to MSN Live Hotmail.  The "upgrade" from MSN Hotmail to MSN Live Hotmail was offered gradually for all accounts, depending on your location/ISP, as I understand it.

From the Help Files: (Access Help files> click on the question mark to the right of Options)
Systemkrav

Suddenly my email adress doesn´t work.
Let us know whether you able to send and receive email from your home computer.

TIP: After you are logged in, if you select your native language, it will translate your main page/inbox, as well as the "Options" and "Help" screens.  Maybe that would help as you are getting familiar with the new screens?
To Select a Language:

If in "Full version"
Click Options (upper right corner) > Click More Options (at the bottom)
Click Select Language
Tick the box Svenska
Click Save at the bottom.

Reverse the process to change back to English.

I experienced the same confusion with the change over  .  Also remember there is a "Help Central" at the bottom right of the MSN Live pages too.  More info if needed.

I haven't used the free version of AVG AV, but have read about it.  The options for scanning...what AVG calls "Test" are:
1. Schedule a scan daily, and you can tell it when during that 24 hour time to do a test/scan.

Most people schedule that scan to take place when they are not actively using the computer.  If for some reason you are using the computer while the scan starts & it slows things down, you can pause, to resume later or stop the scan.
If I were a first time user of this AV, that's what I would choose until I became more familiar with it, and it's protection capabilities.

OR

2. Remove the option of a daily scan/test, and remember to start a scan manually.  Watching the video will show you how to get to that setting. See screenshot for close up view. AVG calls it: "Periodically start scheduled antivirus test".

Is the Resident Shield active/"on" now that you have uninstalled Kaspersky?
