Open your program click on the overview button on the left hand side then click on update manager once,
you there put a tick (check) in the box that says Start Automatic Updates then you can set the time to get your update.
(IE: Every day 11.10)
you can also set it to periodically check for updates.
also if you want at your PC and want to just do a check for an update then right click your AVG icon in your taskbar.
