Norton Internet Security 2007 - After Trail Period - Safe ?
« on: December 06, 2007, 04:35:22 PM »

Hallo LandzDown Forum, and thanks for the nice Welcome !
 :mitch:

My wife, and I have got a PC with Windows Vista and Norton Internet Security 2007 on, as a 90 days trail.
Last week did Ingrid's period expire, and it can not be updated, what do not surprise us, as one is supposed to buy the product...
But - Can it scan prober and still protect now ?  Is it safe to use, for some time (Guess there is not new Virus every day).
Or is there a Risk ?

And -
If one decide to  get a free Anti-Virus Program - What are best to Vista, who is using Firefox 98%
 :firefox:
What is best ?

Hi, Jorn_DK.  Another welcome for you!

You are correct, if the software cannot be updated, the computer is not adequately protected.  Since Add/Remove programs generally is not able to remove all of the bits and pieces of Norton, you will want to follow the instructions for the "Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista 2008.0.1.19".  See http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_2000XPVista/1169144666/1

Personally, I use Firefox 99.9% of the time on my Windows Vista machine.  I am fortunate to have a license for Eset NOD32 antivirus.  However, there are "several free for personal use" antivirus software products available.  See the list in my "Windows Vista Bookmarks" blog document:  Vista Compatible Antivirus Software.

Hej Jorn_dk

You are not safe running outdated security software. If you don't want to use Norton Internet Security 2007 anymore, please go to following site and run the Rnav2003.exe removal utility.

A 2nd "Vote" for Avast ; it has 7 "Providers/Shields" and EXCELLENT Support Forums.
Before choosing your "Replacement", it would be wise to read a products "FAQ"s
  and Avast's is at www.avast.com/eng/faq-avast-4-home-professional.html .

Hej GR@PH !

Thank you for AVG Link ! And Norton Removal Tool -

And Comodo Firewall
(So Windows Vista´s own Firewall is not safe ?)
We use to have Norton as Firewall, as recommended by Symantec.

Im runing with avast free. It has a great protection and I never have any viruses.

I can't recommend AVG as it not detects many of these viruses I am playing with. Ect. some remote trojans and some full system acces trojans and so on. Avast detects them all, but AVG dosn't.

But you would be happy, when you uninstall Norton - Then your computer would be fast like hell  :).
