Quistion about 123greetings.com
« on: December 28, 2007, 01:46:57 PM »
 :2cents:

"2 cents" or "a penny" for your thoughts about
hxxp://www.123greetings.com/
(Be careful, there might be pop-op)

I tried this place two years ago, because I would send a Easter Card, and got unvanted pop-op from 3 places (even though I did not alloud any pop-op in Internet Explorer7) It was from DiverCleaner, Winfixer and a 3th, who I do not remeber. All was agressive, and did not accept my NO for a scan, who would get rid of 786 treads and all the "adult" sides, they claim I did visite. I wrote to them, asking what was the ideá. But got a robot reply, 1½ minnutes after, who told me, that they did not read my e-mail, because there was no names, and they send excatly the same "answer" the 2th time I wrote.

Well I have a new PC now, where I use Firefox. Tried to see the site again, because I was curious. And a new pop-op from "Fixyourpc.com" (I believe it was) showed up. I closed down.

I do not have any mailware/spyware (I think) - Because I scanned with Spyboot and SuperAntiSpyware, and I have SpyBlaster.
(No one found anything - And I did not accept anything - Not even a cookie)

But I am a bit curious about this...
1: Why do this firm, who seams to have nice e-cards, accept those pop-ops?
- It give them a bad reputation, I think, and I did write that to 123 two years ago.
2: How can pop-up come, when they are not accepted on IE or FF?
3: Can´t they be stopped?
(I personal I will not go there again) - But it seams to be a popular place! - Still there are better places to send e-cards (without any pop-ups)

Do you know places where I can read more about this? Because somehow I think it is interesting.
It is the only place I found it, but quess of cause there are "millions" of sites, who have the same un-wanted pop-ups.

Just to let you know: This holiday I received on e-card from my Aunt from 123 greetings.  When I was finished viewing it, it immediately opened some download having to do with a registry cleaner or some such.  Anyhow it began to download without me doing anything! Which I took immediate care of!  This is NOT a good site for anything but malware.  Me advice, is steer completely clear of 123 Greetings!

My McAfee SiteAdvisor gives 123greetings a great big red X, meaning "avoid".

Geez, do I like SiteAdvisor

This summer's Storm Trojan (like others before and after it) used 123greetings as one of its delivery vehicles ... you'd get an email with a card link to view, except the link wasn't legitimate.

Personally, I find the site too much of a hassle.  Blue Mountain and American Greetings are much simpler IMO.  Hallmark should be pretty good.

BTW, their site is in Howe's IE-Spyad database.

Think I came there in the first place, because I Googled : "e-cards", and it was 2. on 1.page, as far as I remeber.

Hi, Jane.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum!

Be very cautious with any emails you receive that are supposed to be e-cards.  The malware writers are having a heyday.

Jane ...

Since you just got a new computer and seem intent on protecting your online surfing, how about you tell us a little more about it ... what operating system, what kind of security software you are running (anti-virus, Windows Defender, etc).  Perhaps we can help you tighten your settings a little and keep you from getting into too much mischief when you click away ...  :P

Hi winchester73, who wrote:

 :gwave:
Packard Bell (EasyNote) + Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit +Windows Defender + Norton Internet Security 2007 (90 day trail) - Pre Installed.
I accept only a few needed 1. part cookies (Never 3. parts) and also very few pop-op are alloud.
Have installed Spybot, Search & Destroy + SpywareBlaster + SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition.
Use Firefox and Thunderbird as Standard programs. (Internet Explorer and Windows Mail is seldom used)
Everything is up-dated.

And now also McAfee SiteAdvisor (By the way - I Googled: "123greetings", and a long list came, where a few was Green - But I believe they are just as bad as the red - Guess there will come pop-op, as it are not Wikipedia or tecnical explanations, but advertising) I would not try !

3 years ago I believed I had some mailware or something -
But Ad-Aware Personal SE Free Edition and Norton 2005 did not find anything.
I used IE and Outlook Express.
Well - then I was on many sorts of places - Magazines, e-cards, funny-sites and did accept all cookies and pop-op -
Suddently it happened if I puch a link (Who I knew) there came a different site : "You searched for Elvis Presley, are you also interesed in... ..."
Different types of "Search engines" alle looking the same, but with different names "Mamma" or something. And it was not every times.
When I reorganised the XP, blocked 3. parts cookies and pop-op it was normal again.

Greetings Jane

Although a lot of techie stuff included, Sandi reports Malicious content appearing on 123greetings.com as discovered by seo.mhvt.com.  Definitely a good idea to avoid 123greetings.com!
