Corrine,
1) do you use the FREE or PAY version of winPATROL?
2) is it relatively straight-forward to use, easy setup, no incompatibilities with other apps, etc?

* i'm trying to use as little software as possible: makes it easier to figure out where the source of trouble is, when there IS trouble.

* another thing that WOULD be nice, that i haven't seen -- i'd like to have my COOKIES enabled (too hard to surf with them off), but i'd like certain, SPECIFIC ones deleted every time i end a visit to that site, but ONLY certain cookies.

for ex: I want to keep my cookies from site1.com, because deleting them means i lose logon info, preferences, etc. On site2.com, I need cookies ennabled to logon and surf, but i'd like THOSE DELETED AFTER I LOGOFF.

there's actually only a small list of cookies that i'd like to keep.

i've been deleting the rest by hand.

 - nothing i've seen is this "customizable" when it comes to cookies. i'd like to chose certain ones, to be treated differently than the others.

if anybody knows of software that does that...

I used to use the free version but now have WinPatrol Plus, the pay version.  I have't had any conflicts between it and Ad-Watch.  Although because I don't allow anything to work automatically, I end up with the extra prompt when I'm installing software that changes the registry -- one from Ad-Watch and another from WinPatrol.  I don't mind though.

Try the free version of WinPatrol and if you like it, you can upgrade to the licensed version.  A really nice feature with the Plus version is the ability to access Plus Info, copy the additional information and then create a note, saving it right with the task or program.

Take a look at the info link I posted.  That should give you a good idea about how easy WinPatrol is to use.

It is alwayz up to the user and thier preferences....
As I see it, a lot of support will steer to monitoring the mass amounts of software that is availabbbble today.SoftWare that seems to be desinED to "customize" the users machine to fit thier needs and protect the system W \O any conflicts or "holez" in the Blanket....
Then one can advise to others on the quality and integrity of those toolZZZ...
Some like the "hands on" approach and there are great user interactive toolZ that allow one to be a part of the "action"
Then, sumOnePeople iZ not liken to wanna play with all that and again there are toolZ that auto scan-fix-delete-cleanUp-filter-block-monitor-BakeCookies and make bred while yer in the BathTub....
I like to feel the computers need to hav me actively takin care of it as it werks for me without complaints.....
