Dial-Up Connection & Firefox
« on: December 14, 2011, 04:54:37 PM »
This must be a Windows while not a Mac thing:

Every time I turn on Firefox (latest version) on my Windows7 computer, the Dial-up Connection window pops up.  Sometimes I just want to rearrange my bookmarks so I click Cancel or hit the X to close the pop up.

It reappears within seconds, driving me to the loony bin, as bad as any malware program.

Has anyone hit on a way to make Firefox recognize that you don't necessarily want to go online every single time?

Hi, ComicsLover.

The setting isn't in Firefox but in Network and Sharing.

Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.
Select Internet Options in the lower left-hand corner.
Click the Connections tab and check the settings for dial-up.

I haven't used dial-up since Windows Vista but believe if you uncheck "Never dial a connection", you can then use the click the Network Connection icon in the bottom-right hand corner of the start menu.  Select the connection for your ISP and then click the connection button.

Oh, snapdoodles. Why didn't I think of that?
What did work (but only as long as I was a fast clicker) was to open the browser File and click Work Offline.  Thanks for pointing out a better solution.  :D
