Sigmatel-IDT-Systray problems during shutdown?
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:55:48 AM »
Whenever I try to shutdown my computer, I get an error message about
Sigmatel-IDT-Systray. It doesn't close down. Does anyone know what I
could do to fix this?

I have deleted stsystra.exe from the registry, but it still gives me an error message.

Thanks.

Why did you delete the file from the registry?

Tell us more about your problem.  When did it start happening?  Where you able to successfully close the Systray at the prompt and allow Windows to shut down?  Have you updated the Sigmatel driver?  What kind of computer do you have, and what operating system?

Honestly I read someone else had that same problem and deleting that file fixed it.
It started happening when I updated the driver actually. I tried restoring it but I am having trouble.
When it prompts me to end now, I click on it and Windows will shut down.

Yes it is my thread, nobody has had much to say.

Computer brand and OS?

I suspected a driver update was the issue based on what I have researched so far.  Have you gone directly to the computer manufacturer's page to get the driver?

I'm getting the same problem but my laptop is brand new and all I did was install McAfee, Office 2007, Photoshop, etc didn't update any drivers.  I have sound.  It's a Dell Latitude 6400, running XP.

I tried 2 different registry cleaners but I have to pay for it under for the clean up to work. I also went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run but don't see an entry there for stsystra.exe.  I ran HijackThis and it didn't come up.  I googled it as well but can't seem to find any solution.

Any further ideas?

Hi, oceania.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

I'm not sure I have an answer for you but do have some questions, a couple comments and a suggestion.  How will that do you?

Questions:

You have a brand new laptop with Windows XP?  Are you dual-booting with Windows Vista on another drive?  Did you uninstall Windows Vista and install Windows XP?

Comments:

HijackThis does not show everything and much is white-listed.  As far as registry cleaners, I have seen where they do more damage than good, particularly a program that indicates a number of problems but wants cash upfront to make the repairs -- on a new computer.

The file is the audio driver for the Dell laptop. See http://www.file.net/process/stsystra.exe.html

Suggestion:

Based on Ed Bott's post, Update your Dell SigmaTel audio driver, I suggest that you go to the Dell website to see if there is an Sigmatel driver package for your Dell system.  Please read the entire article Ed posted and realize he was using Windows Vista at the time so you may not get the same mileage he did.

Please post back and let us know if you located the correct updated driver.

Thanks Corrine!  Actually Dell is the one that uninstalled Vista and put on XP - I don't think my audio drivers are Sigma - it doesn't show in the Device Manager.  Also when i  I go to the Dell site and put my tag # in and nothing comes up for Sigma so I can't update the sigma drivers. I think it may be left over remnants of Vista?   Anything else I can do short of calling Dell?

Nevermind, I got it fixed. I did have to update the drivers but I was looking for Sigmatel but it was actually IDT.

Hey oceana - I have the same problem.  Do you have a link where the driver can be updated?

http://support.dell.com

enter your service tag - something like 2ABC234   (that's not a real service tag... just an example)

select your os
scroll down for the driver.

if your os is not list, dell does not support it.
