Wanting to Spy, need assistance
« on: January 26, 2012, 03:12:49 PM »
Family tends to use my laptop when they are around. I never worried about it until recently, when I caught my grandson in the act of deleting his Firefox history. This gave me concern! I realize all of them tend to curl up in the corner where no one can see the screen.

I want to know what they are doing on my pc. I tried installing a keylogger, put it in the exceptions of AVG. Maybe I didn't do it right? But when AVG scanned, it put a pop up box right on screen that it found it. This isn't a silent way to to monitor my pc! I am certain the kids no more about the pc than I do! I want something silent running until I go into it and look.

I don't want to block any sites or use a parental control program. I don't know that I need a keylogger either, but I like the idea of it, especially one with screenshots.
I have searched the net and ended up more confused. I need some guidance here.
Someone I can come back and ask questions to.

I think for now I could even just settle for a program that would hold onto to the history in Firefox, even though it was deleted. Or maybe if someone could tell me step by step the proper procedure for installing a keylogger to be undeted.

The laptop is Vista, of course using Firefox and AVG.

If anyone can help me, I deeply appreciate it!

I would begin by talking to your grandchildren first. Using keyloggers or spy software is never a good way to maintain family relations. Just my HO.

Hi MikeW! Thank you so much for your reply!

I have in fact spoken to my entire family of everything from internet security, to cyber stalking and proper etiquette! However, I also know that given a chance, people can and do push boundaries.

Personally, I would like to think my family is a bunch of angels fluttering about. The reality of life is, what we want to believe, and what people will do if they think they can get away with it are quite opposite.

I hope to find everyone being well behaved at my pc. If I do not find that to be true, I would like to see what ELSE I need to talk to them about. Be that smut, or what ever else I might encounter. I can't educate them on what I don't know about. I need informed first.

Thanks again!

Hi, kimi61.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

I agree with MikeW.  Education is key.  In addition, youngsters should not have unsupervised access, but, depending on their age, that isn't always possible.

I hope that your grandson is not using your logon account and, instead, has a limited user account to use.   Again, age dependent, you may need to Set up Parental Controls on that account.

What security programs are installed on the computer?
