Is this a good program to have?  Seems like a unique approach to keeping out the bad guys.

In the event that you decide to install Sandboxie please note that we will be unable to give you any assistance with it. The official support forum may be found at:

Do I take that to mean it is not a good program?

There is nothing wrong with that program. It is just that sandboxes and virtual environments can be tricky and it has always been the policy of this forum not to tread on another developer's toes and give support with their products. There is a thriving Sandboxie forum and that is where you should seek advice.  :breakkie:

ok...happy to go for support for it elsewhere, but it's the first time I heard of anything that works like that.  I wanted some informed opinions on the pros and cons of using it.  Is that considered support for it?

I don't think ETR is saying anything either way.  Sandboxie is somewhat tricky, as are other virtual machine environments, and you can get into trouble if you get in over your head.  It's best to get support at their forum.

The following link may help you to understand a bit more about the pros and cons of sandboxes. Don't get me wrong, a sandbox is a useful tool but you need to know exactly what it is doing and how to manage it or you may have trouble understanding the reasons why some of your programs / downloads are acting strangely. Also, using a sandbox is not a 100% guarantee against malware infection, some strains actively attack sandbox environments.

Thank you very much for the information.  That's what I was looking for.   This device seems to be more than I would want to deal with.

I think that you have made a wise decision, a few good tools and some common sense when browsing is a better combination than entrusting everything to a technical solution. Sandboxes have their place (normally in the back yard!) and are best used by analysts and developers and other such people who have in-depth knowledge of the operating system.
