ok everyone probably knows about it but if not
dns is what takes landzdown.com and turns it into a ip address ( words to numbers)
your isp is the first DNS in the system
BUT not all ips's are the same!
remember about a month ago when that bug was found in dns servers that could take you to bad places
well open dns had theirs done
BUT when i ran the test on a neighbor's system ( att/yahoo) found one of their servers that was not patched and tried to alert them but "support" just didn't care
it is easy to change your DNS server, here is the easy way
https://www.opendns.com/smb/start/computer/and if you wonder if "the net is slow" cause it takes a long time to "looking up" well you just enter this in your address bar and you can check on the status of all there servers ;-D
http://208.67.219.60/ ( that is my home page on firefox) (that page will load even if all dns servers are down)
and like open source it's free
if you do get a 404 error they show a few googel ads
been using it for about 1 1/2 years and love it
always up and fast ;-D
