hotmail scam?
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:31:19 PM »
i cannot log onto my hotmail account.
i have had it for 10 years.

hotmail says my account has been suspended and i must supply my cell phone number so hotmail can send me a pin.

i chose not to do that, but rather answer a series of questions,
skipping the credit card related ones.

what is going on?

Temmu,
You have of course run your scans and cleaned out the rubbish, if so try logging in a a different PC maybe one of your many friends.
if not then perhaps it is time to run them.

Its probably related to Recent reports of Account hijacks.  That isn't to say your account was hijacked.  However, there have been a lot of attempts to hijack accounts.  It could even be that a bot stumbled across your account name and was attempting access.

I don't choose to provide my cell phone number either.  There are alternatives:  Hotmail Security to Protect and Recover Your Account.

that's a well-written and informative article.

hotmail came back and said it could not verify me as owner of my email account.

and speaking of key loggers, my pc seems to be running one against me now...

Thanks, Temmu.

It sounds like its time for a visit to the Analysis and Malware Removal forum!
