WinPatrol 2012 Updates
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:11:00 PM »

WinPatrol allows you to get a better understanding of what programs are being added to your computer. It monitors important system areas that are commonly altered by many malicious programs. This includes the startup groups (registry and startup folder), cookies and active tasks. You can terminate processes and enable or disable startup programs. The cookie monitoring option allows you to automatically delete cookies based on a keyword found in the cookie name. Additional features include a WHOIS lookup tool and an option to alert you on changes. WinPatrol is easy to understand, yet quiet powerful.
As a robust SECURITY MONITOR , WinPatrol will alert you to hijackings, malware attacks and critical changes made to your computer without your permission. WinPatrol PLUS includes our unique R.I.D. technology. As a MULTI PURPOSE SUPPORT UTILITY WinPatrol replaces multiple system utilities with its enhanced functionality.

WinPatrol was the pioneer in using a heuristic behavioral approach to detecting attacks and violations of your computing environment. Traditional security programs scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats. WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. You'll be removing dangerous new programs while others prepare to update their definition/signature data files.

WinPatrol is NOT:
• Likely to conflict with other security programs you rely on.
• A huge drain on your system resources or performance.
• A yearly subscription or program only designed to help if you pay to upgrade.
• A signature based system that relies on already identified threats.
• A program that will update itself automatically without your knowledge.
• Going to connect to the internet unless you explicitly request info.
• Going to install any addition crap or toolbars on your system.
• Supports Windows 98 - Windows 7 including x64 systems.

WinPatrol v24.6.2012 - April 15, 2012

One of the major complaints with the last versions of WinPatrol has been the option to automatically run WinPatrol on startup. We narrowed down the code where Windows 64 was redirecting the location used to auto run WinPatrol. The checkbox found in the Options tab will now maintain its status as it always has.
This "Automatically run WinPatrol..." option controls the small monitor component of WinPatrol that detects changes without slowing you down. Most people who had problems will be happy that Scotty will always on patrol again. Many others use the WinPatrol Explorer tabbed interface but have other programs they prefer as a heuristic monitor. This will work tor them as well

A number of XP users had reported problems which have been tracked down to the use of newer development tools. While our only XP machine won't accept the SP3 update our XP SP3 emulator is now much happier with this new version. I'll continue to work with any XP SP3 users who report problems.
I had also neglected special features available to Windows 64 bit XP users. This configuration is apparently more popular than our stats indicated.

My goal continues to try supporting every version of Windows available with a single code base. Next stop Windows 8!
