AVG FALSE POSITIVE!!!!! ALERT

today's update i has a flase positive for trogen agent X?

it will trip on several programs
in the free posting at AVG two people tried to alert them BUT the mod said you didn't use the right format

so AVG will auto KILL power defrag/ace and several other programs till they get it fixed

the reason i posed here and not in updates is a long story and don't know if i have the authority here?
i just want to warn people !

feel free to move/delete or whatever

You can post in the Update Forum.  Its just that when the next update is relased, prior posts are removed.  I posted a link to this thread with the update and will move this to the A/V Software forum.

There is no signature on that post on that link. From what I'm reading, the power defragger from system internals is being reported by AVG and downloader agent.xs?  The author of that program is the one reporting it in both forums? Or am I missing something here?  Sorry, I'm just trying to get this straight because we have a lot of AVG users at CNET so I want to know what to tell them is they ask.

Roddy...  I beleive that is the link Mitch was referring to.

I came up with the problem also..  Trogan Agent xs...  It removed my power defragger and also is showing problems in Ace-html program when I run a AVG scan...

Just an added note to this. AVG had TWO updates today so it could have come from either I would imagine. The one Corrine just posted was the second one.

it could have been either of them ! (today's updates)

now they have edited the post at AVG free forum!

and i ask how are you going to submit the file if AVG flat out right deleted it and did not put it in a vault ??

ok i am a bit upset i will admit
but LINUX is looking darn good now
in the last month
1. 2 false positives from aaw
1. from spybot s & d
2 false positives by AVG ( and caused system damage here )

seems i spend too much time updating and scanning my "protection" programs and looking at linux ..most of the AV is to protect your Micro$oft friends from getting something passed on by you  cause you can't catch it !

It appears that there might be a false positive with MSAS defs today too related to AOL and/or Quicktime.

and i have been trying to repair my system after AVG and one thing i found

the advice given in the AVG free support forum is TOTALLY WRONG!!!

it will still get it even with that unchecked !
a workaround for anyonw that likes the defragger


take avc resident shield and uncheck all!
download the powerdefragger

do you magic of getting them in the same folder and burn it to a CD

then del all the files from your hard drive and run it on a cd

now they destroyed my ACE html editor 5 (totally legal free download but now removed and not supported or legally downloaded)  so i do still have that problem !

thank you avg support !

BYW with luck i will be online with linux soon and forever! very tired of false positives , Patch tuseday, and all the other thing i have to do to stay clean !  and windows, your cord will be cut and you will be a offline system!

I surely don't blame you for that statement, i been saying that myself for sometime.

I simply don't trust these wretched windows systems in any flavor as they are, you add other's software into them such as AV's and this and that protections along with some useful programs and there are always issues of one form or another.

You try to pull a video card out after a XP install and what do you get? Windows fails to boot up, why, because there has been some hardware change made to the system, well Big Deal! IT IS MY SYSTEM not yours M$, frankly i'm having just as difficult of a time feeling any confidence after some of those experiences, so i can imagine how frustrated you are.
