How are things at the moment?

I see MBAM is scanning C:\ D:\ E:\ and F:\ drives.  Are thse all internal hard drives?  Or are they external drives or thumb drives?  One could be a CD or DVD drive, if there is a disc in it.

bekz09,

You haven't finished yet  :) Please run a further RSIT scan (the tool used in your first post in this thread) and post the logfile. We would like to check to make sure that there is nothing left behind.

bekz09,

OK, I have been flitting between your two threads (my head is now sore) and I think that you about done now. I take it you did eventually manage to update Java so I'll leave it to Corrine to add any final comments.

Hi, bekz09.

As indicated by Eric the Red, you get final comments by me.  Actually, I provided this advice in May when you were here for help.

According to the Security Center information provided in the log in your previous thread, you have Avast as your antivirus software but there is no indication of a firewall.  If you do not have the Windows Vista firewall turned on, please see How can I turn on or turn off the firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later versions? for instructions or use the "Fix it for me" on that page.

You have old, vulnerable versions of Adobe software on the computer.  Please do the following:

Update Adobe Flash Player:

1. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall all instances of Adobe Flash Playe
2.  Use this uninstaller to get the leftovers of Adobe Flash Player at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
3.  Use the appropriate direct download link(s) for Adobe Flash Player.  If you use multiple browsers, you will need to install both versions.

Update Adobe Reader

1.  Go to add/remove programs and uninstall Adobe Reader 8.0
2.  Install the latest version of Adobe Reader from http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
or
3.  Switch to an alternate PDF reader.  There are a number of open source readers available from http://pdfreaders.org/

Update Adobe AIR
1.  Go to add/remove programs and uninstall C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe AIR\Versions\1.0\Adobe AIR Application Installer.exe
2.  Install the latest version of Adobe Reader from http://get.adobe.com/air/?promoid=BUIGQ

A word of advice:  when you install software on your computer, read the message windows during the installation.  You do not have to accept the toolbar add-ons and you also do not have to have each application added to start-up.
