Help With Grisoft Product

Very dependable for all my machines for years now is AVG, starting with Version6 on 98SE. Since i finished up a couple of web projects i been on for a few months i gotten back into researching again and various spyware/virus combos that affect users machines. I actually am enjoying again reading HijackThis Logs and new techniques to pull that crud off the machines although i'm not yet addressing any directly at this time. LoL  :)

OK, my question is this, i need to know if AVG to anyone's knowledge has a setting that i used to use before on earlier versions to "exclude" particular files from scanning (ie:process/keyloggers/virus).

I also posed this question in the Grisoft Forums but yet to see an answer yet.

On the other hand i assume also i might be able to avoid this by reinstalling without "Resident Protection", which i don't prefer but since i do happen to keep a very formidable entire Defense installation on my machines in the form of everything under the Sun to detect with, i might be ok. Of course this also will mean stepping up the scheduled scans to run more frequently.

Can anyone name a couple of other AV's that might allow this feature?

To continue to try to use AVG in this current version for research obviously flags continuously with constant interruptions and the logging program cannot complete it's work affording me the reviews needed.

Not on the free version

but how do you have the
"holistic" set ???

try and disable it and do a scan ;-)))))

that is the part of the a/v that looks for unusual files that could cause harm

Ah i see, hi again MITCH. That's what i thought since i gone inside and out of every possibility the free version offers, which isn't as much as it used too when it comes to features. But then who can argue with the way they update and the protection is been more than adequate in my book.

I took the liberty of reinstalling "WITHOUT" resident protection, at least for the time being. I'm not too overly concerned with AVG always-on protection since i been hit only once in over a year, but actually AVG missed that drop that KERIO! alerted to, so that was that. You probably already seen another post of mine where BAZOOKA found the leftovers of that attempt. One close-call is more than enough for a techie so i've begun adding other arsenal in the form of System Safety Monitor now.

It is "Rule-Based" and i must say it is an extremely formidable addition (layer) that actually lodges within the very ranges malware targets:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: System Safety Monitor - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SSMWinlogonEx.dll

Anyway, thanks MITCH for the confirm on the AVG "free" for the setting i was looking for. I'll choose to improvise without the "resident" for now and see how far we get.

i personaly would just turn of the "holistic check" and use AVG and your other program !!!!

with it off it is using the data base and not using it's designed formula on what is bad so i think you could still use it in resident mode

and just for grins and giggles have you ever used this?

does your program flagg it?  ( it is a 100% safe "test virus")

avast! version 4.6 Home Edition

I use both AVG7 and Avast! for my AV needs. Avast! does have an" exclusion" setting for paths to be excluded from scanning.

I been a long time user of Avast! myself up untill not too long before i switched over to XP Pro and installed AVG 7 on it. In fact, i also kept 2 AV's for quite sometime untill i got better at the controls of these beasts.

I completely forgot that Avast! offers all that and more.
