help with Norton product?

Hi Friends,
I know that a lot of members here are not fans of Norton products, so I'm speaking to those who don't hate it.  I'm having a relatively minor problem which will take several days to resolve via email support.  I've tried getting through on their Chat Support about 15 times, and keep getting cut off before the chat session starts.  I'm wondering if I can post the problem here?  Or can you suggest a good forum for Norton product support?  It's more of a 'how to configure the program' question, as opposed to virus removal.  Thanks very much :)

Hello, Brynn Go ahead And post your problem I’m sure graphics will be able to assist you with your problem as I know he is a longtime user of Norton antivirus software And if he can’t Assist you I’m sure he can point you In the right to direction To try and find a solution to your problem..

I used to have the NIS and NAV buttons/icons on my toolbar (IE6 SP2. NIS 2005), and also on the Windows Explorer toolbar.  But they've recently disappeared, and I'm not sure why.  When I look at Toolbars in the View menu, the items are no longer there either!

I first noticed them missing after I set up a new Limited User Account/Profile (XP Home SP2).  Around that same time, I decided to enable password protection for both NIS and NAV.

My first thought was that setting up the password protection took the buttons off the toolbar.  So I disabled the password options, but the buttons did not reappear.  Setting up this new Limited account is taking a lot more work than I expected, so I really don't want to delete it as a diagnostic measure.

If enabling the password protection does indeed take these buttons off the toolbar, that's fine with me.  I'd rather have that extra measure of safety/security.  But they really are convenient, and ideally I would want both pw protection and toolbar buttons!

What do you think?  Any ideas about the missing toolbar buttons?

Brynn,

Have you tried running Symantec's "Automated Support Assistant"? You can find it here.

Disable any popup blocker that you have running and click on "Let Symantec Solve your Technical Problem".

It worked for me when I had a Live update problem.

I finally, just now, found out it's a known problem for which there is no solution, at this time.  Too bad!

It's interesting, I just set up a limited user account, as I said, thinking that might have caused the buttons to disappear.  Yet the buttons do appear on the toolbar of the limited user -- good news, I guess, once I get that account all figured out and online.

Speaking now to everyone (even those who hate Norton products):
Say, do other good AV programs offer toolbar buttons?  I just really, really liked the buttons!  But now they're gone, and apparently not coming back  :(  :exorcize: (last rites)

Open IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab >  Browsing..and scroll down to "Enable third-party browser extions (requires restart) and put a check mark in the box. Click Apply > OK.
Close IE, and then launch IE again.
You then should see the NAV Toolbar.

I've made the change you suggested, but have a number of windows open with things I can't close just yet.  As soon as I finish with them, though, I will restart, and let you know what happens.

Amazing....one would think it would be in Norton's/Symantec's best interest to offer this info, rather than have their own customer believe their product was malfunctioning...and couldn't be fixed.  [shaking head] tsk, tsk!
