Try to Google Avast! as typed, you could also try to Google Belarc then post results here and at least we could get an idea of what is and what is not on your computer.  AV and the such threaten virus and malware and I have found them to block antidote sites, but Belarc is more an informational site and it should not feel a threat at that site.

hmgaskamp, I only suggested Avast because you placed it in the subject line when you started this topic:

hmgaskamp, pleae do the following:
  • Go to C:\WINDOWS\System 32\drivers etc
  • Right click on the host file and select Open. 
  • When prompted, choose the option to "select the program from a list" and Open with Notepad
  • Select the results and paste here as a reply.

Oh. Yeah, I keep trying to get to those hijack and avast sites, but it won't let me on thats why I said that. I heard somewhere that if your computer has a virus those sites won't let you on. And yes I can use google....Yes I followed the directions specifically. The only sites I'm not able to see are the ones with scanners on them......

Ok, I tried Google Avast! and all it came up with were the Avast sites and google reviews, I can view the reviews but the avast site itself still elludes me. Says it's failing to connect.

The things I can't do are :

.send emails with attachments
.burn images of any kind---can still burn music tho
.send messages on myspace
.approve friend requests on myspace
.post to my schools website with any kind of attachment
.view any avast, or malware site that has a scanner
.add photos to any online photo album ie photobucket, flickr, not even myspace.
.when I turn on my computer, a window pops up and says that C:/Documents cannot be found, if you'd like to search blah blah blah
.if I don't physically push the power button on my computer, the desktop will come on without a start menu, or any icons



I hope this helps you guys, help me.

Just follow Corrine's directions she will tell you exactly what to do step by step just do them, do not try to follow other directions you may have seen somewhere else, that can get you into trouble because these directions are very specific for your issue, just as directions you saw elsewhere were specific for that persons issues.

So just wait till Corrine(or the team here at Landzdown) tells you what to do and do that only, googling for other solutions at this point is not a good idea.

when you mentioned Avast in your post title that led everyone to believe that you were using Avast as your antivirus program hence the confusion.

hmgaskamp, there is nothing showing in your Hosts File that should be preventing you from going to any of the sites we provided.  Without a log of some kind indicating what is on your computer, I cannot recommend anything else.  Can you go to a friend's house and download the requested software to a CD or flash drive and then install it to your computer?
