That's right!  Install over what is already there.  With IE7 Go to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=DXLUJ and UNCHECK the Google Toolbar option and CLICK the yellow "Agree and Install Now" button as shown in the image below:

I opened, IE, went to the link in your last post and this time it did download an .exe file.

I closed all windows and ran it, it uninstalled the existing program and the installation was successful.  However, when I went to the version checking link via IE7, ( http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ ) it is still saying that version 9 is installed.   Does that matter?

Let's see what happens after a restart.  You should have 10.0.12.36 as shown in the image above.  I believe I recall reading that you use Firefox mainly anyway.  Hopefully that updated correctly to version 10.

Yes, when I open the version check site in FF3, it shows version 10......

Had already cleared my cache, but restarted anyway....here is what the version check site said when I opened it in IE7:

try going to
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/

that should show you exactly what you have installed with that browser and may give you a little quick update if it sees you need it.

Now isn't that fun?

It says it wants to install version 11?  That's strange.  I thought I just got the latest update.

Shockwave IS at version 11.  Your current version will be automatically displayed under the words "Shockwave Player" (under the wavy bars, upper right of the screen).

Mouse over the "About" tag on the Flash Player box, and it will tell you what version is installed.  (For some reason, the "about" on the Shockwave player only directs you to a "learn more" page.

Thanks for that link, R-C, and for the extra info, Winchester.

The page prompted me to download and install Macromedia Shockwave Player 11.0r65 (Installed in that version on both FF3 and IE7)  AND

Macromedia Flash Player.   The flash player installed version 10,0,12,36  in Firefox3, and version 9,0,124,0 in IE7.  Is that right?

And what is Macromedia Authorware Web Player? Apparently I now have that too...is that good? Is it something I need?

No, you shouldn't be needing Macromedia Authorware Web Player.  That is for online learning applications on the Web.  However, should you elect to keep it, be sure to check for updates.  To keep track of Adobe Shockwave & Shockwave Player updates, subscribe to this topic:  http://www.landzdown.com/index.php?topic=18768.msg59113#msg59113
