This is in this forum cuz it relates to my A/V software.
First off, I need to start with, I am soo thankful for security forums like this.

And Software Update people are the best!

But today I am most thankful for roddy32, and all these Software Update people..you know who you are.

Example. Plan was to do thorough anti-virus & anti-spyware scans w/ all scanners to confirm my system was clean before uninstalling McAfee A/V & firewall to replace w/ different A/V & FW on March 10/11th.
The signature files from McAfee that were identifying false positives (4715 DAT) was released on March 10th (which had been installed on my computer per auto update)...but I had rec'd no notification from McAfee alerting me to this issue or concerning a caution about DELAYING any on-demand scanning until the next defs were released.
BUT, from time to time, I usually check the Software Update/Security Alerts forums in a few places to confirm that I have latest & most current update signatures on my security software, and had I not done this before scanning w/ McAfee, I wouldn't have known to go to McAfee and manually get the 4716 DAT which they released early to correct this. Thankfully I did this before running my scan.
And it was cuz of this Special Update that roddy32 posted:
http://www.landzdown.com/index.php?topic=250.0So, for the variety of extremely helpful information, general or specific, such as this Special Update, I for one say a big THANK YOU!
Secondly, while I have chosen to uninstall McAfee personally, my heart goes out to these security software vendors, including McAfee, who are trying their darndest to do the right thing, staying ahead of the scumware of the world, and then release an update which is counterproductive. Don't know how often this happens...but I've noticed similiar unfortunate happenings w/ other software vendors.
I don't think it's that often, and if you continue visiting forums like this you can be alerted to any adjustments or modifications nec to keep your computer safe and getting the most out of the security software that you have.
