What's Your Favorite AV?
« on: September 27, 2005, 07:04:42 PM »
I have always used AVG, and usually put AVG on those whom I help, as well.

But I was thinking about switching to Avast.  But I also heard that some think that Avast is a resource hog.  Some had mentioned switching over to Avast because AVG was missing so many things lately.

Any thoughts or likes or dislikes and why?

skittlespc,
I am sure that some of the others will come let you know about  Avast but I used to use AVG but now use Norton but I do find that it can be a drain on resources.

You use Norton?  Are you NUTS?  lol  :tease:  lol

I didn't think any computer expert/guru/nut used Norton.  lol  major resource hog!  Usually when ppl have Norton, even if it is a new computer I know me and several others uninstall it right away...first thing.  lol

Same here. Having an infected computer with 128 or even 256 Mb of RAM to run with Norton AND an infection is almost impossible.
The last system I cleaned, I had to manually empty the "\user\temp"-folder from 17000 Norton logs.

128 MB of RAM? Are you sure it was a computer and not a coffe maker or a fire detector? :moreevil:

Norton is like having a 1200 ccm Kawasaki motorcycle. It's no toy for the weak to play around with.
If you try to get it into the trunk (boot) of your Volkswagen, don't be surprised if it's to large for your resources.
Threat it well and it serves you without any grunts.

Personal favourite, and the favourite of many professionals, is Kaspersky AntiVirus.

A close second for me is NOD32.  :tease:

Then that would be my misinterpretation of the program that was and then wasn't, or is that was and will not, or could it be that it's not but was when it wasn't then wasn't anymore.  :tease: :| :uhm:

I have used McAfee on all of my personal machines for many years. At work, I am a Network Administrator and I have tried F-Secure, Norton, Kerio, AVG and a few others. But I really like McAfee Security Suite.

I also, do not like Norton. When I repair machines, I have discovered a lot of B L O A T and the machines just don't work all that well. The live update is...well, a little dead!

McAfee works very well and has a lot to offer for a small cost.   :breakkie:
