OK I just reinstalled WP 28.8 and still disabling startup programs does not show as such in the program. If it is designed as it, I do not know how to remember which programs were disabled. Do we have to make a remember note and stick it somewhere ?

I also found out that the Registry Monitoring is missing the default entry locations it had before. I imagine is because of this ?

" The WinPatrol setup program will no longer launch  regedit  as part of the install process. In the past, regedit was used to set some useful examples on how to use the feature that allows WinPatrol to monitor any registry location. Launching regedit was not acceptable to some secure systems and with so many different versions of Windows not all of our examples were useful on all platforms. A help file is still easily accessible on the Registry Monitoring tab.
(All Users during setup. PLUS required for custom registry monitoring.)
"

Any feedback about the Startup programs issue is welcome. Thank you.

Hi, Hernan.

I sent Bill a link to this thread earlier today but suspect he has been busy responding to emails after the update.  However, the following was posted in the WinPatrol Facebook group by a member there, which appears to confirm the problem with Windows XP:

Quote
If you remove the old version of WinPatrol and then install the new version the start-up listing shows everything disabled. If you install over the existing version the listing looks the same on the first access but shows all disabled in any other access. Had to re-enter information on both installs. Disabled problem is with this version on Windows XP, Not a problem on Windows 7.

Bill just posted the following on the WinPatrol Facebook page:

Reports of Disabled programs not being displayed correctly has been confirmed. A fix is currently being tested.

Thanks Corrine.

Not fun of Facebook. I remember I used to pay a little extra to not be in the phonebook so I do not see why I have to be in facebook. Old fashion I guess.

No problem, Hernan.  You have me and ky331 to share any information of value from Facebook since we both keep tabs on the WinPatrol group there.  :)

WinPatrol 28.9 Update

Disable Bug Fix 28.8.
As sometimes happens, when you add one feature you break another.    For anyone who installed WinPatrol 28.8 on a non Windows 8 system the "Disabled" status of startup programs is now being displayed properly.  This version 28.9 will fix that problem.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to report any problems they have.  For everyone who takes the time to post their experience I expect there are dozens who just give up and may remove WinPatrol. So yea, I am grateful to everyone as much as I am thankful to Corinne who devotes so much of her time to help with no expectation of reward or even acknowledgement.

I try hard to make sure any WinPatrol news including updates are widely circulated. There is a Fans of WinPatrol page on Facebook because we can't deny there is a large audience and it's convenient for many if I post information on this page. I share the privacy fears which have been expressed here so I discourage using Facebook for support questions. In fact, on the WinPatrol website I provide a link but ask users not to join Facebook just to use our Facebook page.  Emailing support@winpatrol.com is typically the best source of support although there are days you may be a quicker answer right here on Landzdown. :)

Thanks again,
Bill

Thank you Bill.

WP 28.9 is installed and working as always. Like a charm :goodie:

It is my experience that rarely something is wrong with Scotty so as a long time user I get a little worry that we XP users are left behind with all the upgrades. I know that I must upgrade my OS, eventually, but I still have 7 more months of life in this old workhorse

Thanks also to Corrine who have also read my posts and answered them effectively.
