My own personal view is best firewall: ZA Free (an older version than the current versions, because simply they work better), Windows Defender with it's realtime guard, NOD32 (worth the money) or if you wanted a free one Avast works well. Thats just a brief rundown on what I think is the best firewall, antispyware and antivirus. I'm sure others will give you their own views too :)
Beta. Software undergoes beta testing shortly before it's released. Beta is Latin for 'still doesn't work.'

i agree with SpyDie

BUT
still think the most important item is YOU !
don't just allow things with a firewall be sure first !
and any firewall MUST pass the "grc.com"  scan test !! ( on his site "shields up" and verify that all ports are stealth !

i would also suggest firefox with "no scripts" over I.E.
check your settings in I.E.!
current on all ms updates
be very cautious on opening email
i use thurnderbird with "show html" so i always start reading mail in plain text, then can click for html if i know it is safe !

THERE IS NO LINUX IN VISTA!!!!!!!!!!!
they both have a "kernel" and that is it and nothing in common with the kernel

and between you and me i would wait for a bit before you even think of vista!
1. hardware requirements for the good version are pretty high
2. the cost is high
3. after it has been out for a bit just like XP there will be several patches and security fixes
3. some software won't run right and they will suggest you run it in a lower mode but not guaranteed to work !

so just relax and let the bugs get worked out and then no problems for you !
i remember i waited almost a year for XP and installed it a week before sp-1  ;-(

and it took almost 6 months for roxio to make a patch for XP so i could burn a cd !

now if you want to play with linux i can recommend a few "live cd's" that will run it from a cd and use nothing but memory from your system to see if you like it ;-D

Agree totally with that. The hardware requirements are substantially higher than that of XP. I do not intend on upgrading to Vista for a long time.

yeah i wish half life 2 and counter strike source would work with wine, thats the only reason im still on XP is steam, i think its really crappy no one will support linux besides the opensource community, only problem is, the open source commonity doesn;t make games like half life 2 and counter strike source. you know you pay 80 bucks for the games and there expansions, and they only make it for windows, not even mac, but you find out the game wont work with wine. I wish i could see more games being developed for linux that weren't boring.
