This is only a question to which I have been unable to find an answer.

Why does a Scheduled Threat Scan takes takes 12 minutes to run but a Manual Threat Scan only takes 6 minutes? They both scan about the same number of files (not known if they are the same files). I have scanned the Malwarebytes Forum to no avail. Running MBAM Premium.

Open Settings on Malwarebytes and scroll down until you get to the heading Impact of Scans on System.
Is the following selected? Manual scans have high priority and will finish more quickly

There's your answer.

In fact, I have no idea how long a scheduled scan takes. I was using my netbook last night and at one point I got a popup telling me that a scheduled scan had finished. I had no idea that a scan was being run.

Thanks for your reply. After reading the manual it makes sense in a way. It seems that a Scheduled Scan is run without able to be controlled by the user. It also applies to the Free version which runs on my laptop. The Free version receives an automatic scheduled scan once monthly set by MBAM. As regards to a completed scans I was aware that it actually pops up a completion box only on the Premium version. So it is case closed as far as I am concerned. Thanks again for your reply.

The last version that will run on XP is 3.5.1 which was in the first half of 2018. (That's according to my notes.)

On the rare occasion I fire up XP, I've had no problem updating the database.

Question:  If I already have the setting configured for windows 10 that allows compatibility with Defender, do I have to reset that when version 4 installs?  Or will my settings carry over?

The settings should carry over but it would be simple enough to double-check the setting.

The new version of Malwarebytes free doesn't give as many options for scanning as the previous 3.8.3 version. There used to be three choices, now there is just this one and it tales much longer for it to scan my computer. ::) They really changed their look with the version 4.

Like Windows 7,  I think I will stick with the version 3--as long as I keep getting updates.  Windows 10 may be good in the long term but Micros$ft removed a lot of features that I like in Windows 7--like their media player. I'll just get more security  for more possible security vulnerabilities. Besides, I understand that there are still Windows XP users out there. :o I wonder how they're able to keep using software updates, etc. with that operating system. ::) ???

If you click on the SCANNER panel (not the scan button), it opens ups a new "tab".   At the bottom, it offers "Advanced Scanners", where you can configure and run a CUSTOM scan.
(Apparently the QUICK scan is a premium feature.)

My two computers were offered the update. One on Friday and one on Saturday. I installed yesterday and had no problem. (Still running Windows 7)

My husband's two computers have not been offered the update and I won't force it. I did that a version or two back and had all sorts of troubles. The MBAM troubleshooter requires a version of .NET framework that isn't installed on 3 of our computers so I couldn't use that. I wasn't willing to install .NET 4 something then go through tons of updates to get it up to speed.

Need what, G -- the update or Malwarebytes?  Personally, even with the improvements to Windows Defender, I'll continue to trust Malwarebytes to protect my device.
