New WinPatrol Home Page --- pushing the paid versions
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:46:20 AM »
I was surprised this morning when I noticed a completely redesigned WinPatrol Home Page.   That's fine... It's been a while since Bret took over from Bill... and so it's not unexpected.

But what IS disconcerting is that the page clearly focuses on and pushes the various paid/PLUS/combo-pack versions of WinPatrol and WinPrivacy.   Indeed, I had to look very carefully to realize they still offered a free version.   I would hope Bret might make this more obvious.

The page looks nice, but yes, I agree.  I couldn't find any mention of the free version of WinPatrol although the download link does work.

I've frequently referred people to the features, compare and other pages but someone looking for information wouldn't know they exist.  Hopefully, this is just a work in progress.

Someone I know has a testimonial quote at the bottom of the page

Where exactly are you finding it?  I've clicked on all the pages and can't find any mention  :uhm:

on the main page www.winpatrol.com

on the left-hand side, there's the upper picture of Scotty...
and below it, a second picture of Scotty, under which it says "Download WinPatrol v32.0.2014.5".
Click on those words.

The word "FREE" doesn't appear at all.  That's why it's so hard to find!

Ahhhh, saw the hyperlink was http://www.winpatrol.com/wpsetup.exe, so I didn't bother to go any further.

Noticed Ruiware was headquartered in Largo, FL.  I spent many years about 10 miles north of there.

Seeing as how Bret worked for Sunbelt Software located in Clearwater, FL, the location certainly fits.  (Tammy Stewart/Blender told me recently that our old friend Webhelper/Patrick Jordan stayed with GFI after Alex sold Sunbelt.  Tammy is a "Malware Research Consultant" for Malwarebytes now.)

I guess I forgot there was a free version. I bought my first two licenses in January of 2010 (for 99ยข each when BillP was having a sale) and just keep purchasing as I added computers.
I have 6 licenses and only 4 of our computers go on the internet so I'm covered when I buy a Win 10 computer.  :Hammys pint:

You should have purchased a family pack after the first two.   :D

Guess somebody got the message to Bret:   the link now (19 Feb) is clearly relabeled "Download WinPatrol v32.0.2014.5 FREE & PLUS"
