hi again,
as far as alerts and sygate, i didnt have any alerts after i set it up. what i did see was a red arrow on the fw icon showing incoming traffic was blocked. so being curious i would bring up the traffic log and then Karens Who Is and trace it. otherwise i never got any popups/alerts.
as for Sam Spade, ill stick with karens who is for now. sorry but i am used to karens and with the new fw to configure its one step at a time here :) after i become used to kero and feel comfortable with it, then ill jump into sam spade and maybe tweak more fw settings. its going quite well w/ kero and im getting a good grasp on it. actually its not as complicated as i had thought. its simple and straight forward but the pics you supplied were a GREAT help :D as the lod saying goes: "a picture is worth a thousand words" and in my case it couldnt have been more true.
again thanks for the tutoring and pics and if i run into any trouble or have anymore questions ill be sure to swoop  into this section and ask for help:thumbsup:

E :D

hi all,
i started to use kerio 2.1.5 but was over whelmed with all the rules. since then sygate has been bought by symantec (ick) and im now looking for another fw. i have installed kerio on my xp and it seems easier for me now to understand the popups so im looking for help setting it up correctly. i clicked on the links that herbalist supplied but as i thought, they are no longer working.
i will try all suggestions but it will take time for me to reply as im working full time and i get in about 7pm each evening.
thanks in advance,
G

FWIW, I get along fine with ZA Pro...some say it is a huge resource hog...but for my system it seems to be a very good firewall. I've tried Kerio (both 2.1.5 and the latest versions) and prefer the later versions to it. Have you tried Outpost firewall?

Just my  :2cents:
Beta. Software undergoes beta testing shortly before it's released. Beta is Latin for 'still doesn't work.'

a slight correction.
the link above is for setting up the 'default' rules. you must go from that point and add your own rules.
there is another set of default rules at this link near the bottom. read the entire thread.
