A apology & a thank you
« on: December 22, 2018, 09:11:21 PM »
Back in April of this year I asked everyone for help as I could not get on the internet. Corrine, plodr & everyone else tried to help me for weeks.

I stopped going on the computer because we lost our daughter & up till now I just gave up doing  many things.

I wanted to update you that it was my computer as I had it repaired or tried to have it repaired. I have just ordered a new computer which will be a Dell Windows 10. I am not looking forward to learning the 10 but it is something I have to do.

Just so you know on the modem it only has 3 lights not 4 that light. One is dsl & power which is green & the middle light is the ethernet which goes on when I hit the power button. Like I had said we live in a very rural area.

Not only at the end was I having trouble with the internet, I had the keyboard freeze quite a few times. This computer is not that old but I have had lots of problems since I bought it. Hope the new one is better.

Again I just want to thank everyone for their help & please know I did appreciate it.

Merry Christmas

Mary

Hi, Mary.

First, I am so very sorry for your loss.  I cannot imagine what you have been going through.  As to not responding further, no apology necessary and we'll do our best to help you get acquainted with Windows 10.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

Just like going from W95 to XP to W7, there is a learning curve but once you get used to it, it becomes very intuitive. But more importantly, W10 is the most secure Windows yet. And finally, even the critics are coming around to the fact that Windows 10 built-in security program, Windows Defender is plenty good for the vast majority of users. See Microsoft Windows Defender: Finally Good Enough. So from the very first boot, you are protected.

And note if you find you just cannot get comfortable with Windows 10 start menu and desktop, there are a couple great alternatives that bring back the familiar look and feel of Windows 7 to your Windows 10 system. While I use the default W10 desktop and start menu on 4 of my systems, on my two main computers (this one and my notebook) I use Start10 which, IMO, is the best $5 I ever spent for any software program.

So sorry for your loss.

I don't run Windows 10 but you are in fine hands here with the members that do run it.

Thanks, Corrine, Digerati & plodr.

Digerati, you are right parents are not suppose to outlast their kids. My husband & I know she is in a better place with no pain. We thought she was getting better so it was a shock we will never forget.

I am sure there will be questions with Windows 10 & I know everyone here who is always patient with me will help.

Hope 2019 is good to everyone

Mary
