We're not finished with you yet.  :)

In addition to replacing A/V & Firewall, have you completed everything here:  http://www.landzdown.com/index.php?topic=36367.msg114734#msg114734

Please post the MBAM log.

At the moment, we're dealing with any possible malware on your computer.  The quick scan by MBAM should be sufficient.  However, between scans with any program (i.e., antivirus or anti-malware software), it is important to restart the computer.

Hi, MRMADDOODLE.

I have been doing some research and it appears there are quite a few people with an  Acer Aspire 6920 who have had problems with fps drops while playing games.

Have you updated the video driver?  I see that the most recent for the Acer Aspire 6920 is from December 2008.  http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/

Let's also check the temperature.  Please go to http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php and download SpeedFan 4.39.  Although the image below is for an older version, you will find the download link for 4.39 similarly as shown:

Install SpeedFan 4.39 and launch it from the desktop link.  Do not make any changes to any of the settings.  You will see a screen like below.  Please save a screen copy and post a link to the image.

Hi, MRMADDOODLE.

Other than Check Disk and Windows Memory Diagnostic (both referenced below), I believe that you are experiencing the same problem that has been documented by other Acer Aspire 6920 owners.  See  Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion topics Left 4 Dead lag on Acer 6920 and this on the 6920G Acer Aspire 6920G fps issues..  It also appears that there have been problems attributed to nVidia.  See this topic at the World of Warcraft forums:  NVidia 8800 series low FPS (It is a 9 page thread with the Acer Aspire 6920 referenced on the last page.  nVidia drivers are available at http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html

I have a "hardware" MVP friend I have asked to take a look at this thread.  He may have other suggestions.

Check Disk and Windows Memory Diagnostic

Check your hard disk for errors (Illustrated at Windows Vista for Beginners How to use the Check Disk tool), and

From:  Microsoft Online Crash Analysis

Quote
The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors. The diagnostic includes a comprehensive set of memory tests. If you are experiencing problems while running Windows, you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM or the memory system of your motherboard. Windows Memory Diagnostic is designed to be easy and fast. On most configurations, you can download the diagnostic, read the documentation, run the test and complete the first test pass in less than 30 minutes.

To run Windows Memory Diagnostic, you must reboot your computer with the disk or CD-ROM on which you installed Windows Memory Diagnostic in the drive. After the reboot, Windows Memory Diagnostic will load and its interface will appear. After loading, the first test pass will begin, using the default standard test suite, and continue until complete, unless Windows Memory Diagnostic is either paused or exited. Once the first test pass is complete, Windows Memory Diagnostic will begin a second test pass using the same settings as before. Windows Memory Diagnostic will continue to run test passes until you exit.

just read a little about that on your links it fits in perfectly, my GPU overheats meaning it has to slow down, it does it by itself and i can't stop it so when it slow's down it means its cooling down and then it speeds up once its cooled down and goes on like that. That sounds a lot like what's going on here yeh im sure now so im basically screwed.

do you agree? i would understand if you didn't cause i have no knowledge in computers i just know how to use them

apparently the CPU is doing it aswell it just has different symtoms this is a perfect reason now i just need to find away to stop the CPU from throttling and the GPU from downclocking

Until my hardware friend has a chance to check this thread, my thoughts are to start with elevating the laptop for better air circulation.  I am also wondering if something like the Microsoft Notebook Cooling Base or similar product would help.  (This appears to be the best prices:  http://www.apc-usa.net/ssproduct.asp?pf_id=1013056669 however I would also compare to BingCashback.)

Before you start messing around, I suggest you create a fresh System Restore point and install ERUNT:

 ERUNT - Download - Homepage
This ensures you have a valid registry backup. ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore if needed. Compatible with Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 32 & 64-bit versions.
  • Download ERUNT
  • Double-click erunt_setup.exe to run.
  • Follow the prompts and install using the default configuration (setup language, install location, shortcuts...).
  • Say No to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later.
  • Start ERUNT
  • Choose a location for the backup.  The default location C:\\WINDOWS\\ERDNT\\[today\'s date] is preferred
  • The first two check boxes are ticked by default (System registry and Current user registry).
  • Press OK
  • When prompted, click YES to create a new folder.
  • Progress bars will show backup status.
  • A confirmation window will popup when complete. Click OK to close.

right well it is the throttle for sure, im just now configuring the temperatures and s%^# to make sure the throttle doesn't start, when it runs normal i have 2k MHz then when it goes slow it is because it overheats then it goes down to 700-800 MHz (this is per Core) atm im working on the volts that the battery puts in the CPU to reduce the overheating, the less power the more unstable the laptop is BUT im gunna test it each time and change the amount of volts the battery is putting in so this should be interesting :)

Edited by winchester73 ... this is a family site, so we would prefer that language is kept under control
