backing up profiles in Firefox (and other apps) question
« on: November 07, 2008, 04:27:12 AM »
if i want to backup profiles to an app, can i simply find the folder and COPY it to a CD or ext drive (right-click, choose copy)?

for instance, firefox profiles is here (in XP):
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

does the mozilla explanation need to be followed exactly?
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information

my way is easier- but i won't do it, if the right-click method corrupts files (like .js, db, xml, hostperm.1 etc)

- in FF's case, i can probably get away with just copying the files prefs.js and hostperm.1
but i'd like to backup similar things for opera and other apps -- each has different names and locations for stuff: easier for me, if i can simply copy the entire folder.

a dumb idea?

if anyone knows...
my spybot s&d updates are here (in zip, exe and ini files)
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Updates

can i right-click and copy the entire folder to CD, to do a backup?

much quicker than having to download them all again
