Printer stopped printing

Need some help with getting my printer to work.

I have a Xerox Workcentere 3215. It was working fine until I connected it to the telephone cable to get the fax to work. That works fine.  However, I now find that the printer is not hearing the command to print.  It seems to be getting stuck on a document in the queue.  Running the troubleshooter says it fixed that.  However, I'm not having trouble cancelling/deleting items in the queue.   They eventually do delete, but not instantly like normal.

When I add a new print job, the Xerox printer makes an "engaging" type noise, but doesn't continue on to print the job.  The status is showing as "Printing".

(Computer specs in my signature are up to date)

The fact you hear the printer trying to start the print job suggests it is actually receiving the print job. And the fact the print jobs do drop from the queue suggests the printer is telling your computer the print job completed.

Have you power cycled the printer? Don't just turn it off, but turn it off and unplug it a 30 seconds or so, then plug it in again.

How does this printer connect? Directly to your computer, or to your network? If network, can other devices print to it?

Can you print a test page from the printer's front panel menu?

The printer connects directly to the computer, yes.   I can make copies on it still.  We have not been able to get the computer to hear print commands from the other computer on our home network since the Windows 10 updates to both machines. But that's not a huge deal, since he can just send me the file to print.

OK, just did the unplug and restart thing.  The printer screen said "initializing" when it came back on and automatically printed a test page.


And, now. It seems to work fine. :)

Why do I always forget that shutdown and restart can fix a multitude of issues? :P

In particular, when it comes to hardware and electrical, Digerati is the first person I think of!

I think they might be dancing so that they are too cute to become baby-back ribs. ^_^
