Cryptojacking threat question
« on: January 05, 2018, 03:38:20 PM »
I've been reading about a new threat called "cryptojacking" where in you visit a site that uses your PC while you are there to "mine" for cryptocurrency.

I see that FireFox has extensions like "No Coin" to block these exploits, but what I am wondering is if I am already blocking them with NoScript and UBlock Origin.  Or even MalwareBytes.

Should I install the No Coin extension as well?

That might be a bit of over-kill but if you're more comfortable adding it, you could certainly disable/uninstall it if it slows the browser.

I only want to do it if not covered by one of the other programs. I couldn't find any documentation that would give me the answer to that, so if you think its overkill, that's good enough for me. :)

Malwarebytes blocks the major domains that are used for mining in the background.
Which can be a nuisance for those that actually want to mine, but should be adequate for your needs. Certainly when combined with NoScript and UBlock.  8)

Thank you, Metallica. Since I have the Pro version of MBAM, that reassures me that  I am adequately protected.
