grrrr Add/Remove Programs
« on: October 10, 2005, 04:56:47 PM »
Argghhhhh!  lol

This student of mine's pc is driving me CRAZY!!!  lol  (pianoteachers)

This stupid HP has a TON of things on it.  Way more things then she wants or needs.

Such as two money programs....quicken AND msMoney.  lol

Anyway, I was uninstalling in Safemode.  When I was in both safemode and regular mode, there were a TON of things listed.

I had tried to uninstall the Quicken Installer in both safemode and regular mode.  Both times the stupid pc froze on me.

Then when I have gone back into Add/Remove programs in both safemode and regular mode, it is missing the quicken installer and the msmoney installer and a ton more things that were listed that I was planning to uninstall.

I never did uninstall them, but now they are not listed so that I can.

BUT they are still in the system, because if I click Start/Programs/  they are still all listed in there, for me to click to install.  Also some of the things that are now missing in my add/remove program list is a ton of games that she will not use or play.  such as polar golf, and other games that are all part of the "wild games" program.

I was planning to uninstall those as well, but they are missing from the list.  grrrrrrrr

What happened?  Why did alot of those programs just disappear from the list?

another problem that I have noticed is that on the ones that ARE listed in the "add/remove programs" list, when highlighted they are no longer showing the Change/Remove button anymore.  It just shows the status if the program is used or rarely used, etc.

I don't know what the problem is or what I could have done to cause this problem.  Therefore I can't seem to uninstall many programs that I need to and want to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi skittlespc! :)

Applications produced by descent vendors most often behave fair and as expected, but as you know by now the opposite also exists.
The behaviour your describing seem to point at the latter.

My suggestion  is that you post a HijackThis log from pianoteacher's PC to let an expert on LzD have a look at it?
After that it's easier to comment the situation occured, and most probably a few possible events can be ruled out.

Jason ;)

This is Skittles.  I am using her screen name right now.

Here is the results of a test I ran on her pc, at pcpitstop.  Here is the link to see what her pc looks like.   Nothing really new tho.

I will post a hijack this report in the hijack log forum.

Altho I had my friend Little Eagle take a look at her hijack log and he really couldn't find anything at the time.  That was about 2 weeks ago.  Maybe 3.

brb...with a log.

In HijackThis, click 'Config' then 'Misc Tools'. Click 'Open Uninstall Manager'. Click 'Save list', and then 'Save'. It'll automatically save it & open it. Post the contents of the Notepad window that appears.

It'll be a list of everything in a certain key in the registry. It is the same key A/R program uses to get it's information about what is installed.

Post the contents but also compare that list to what Add/Remove programs lists. Is there any difference?
Beta. Software undergoes beta testing shortly before it's released. Beta is Latin for 'still doesn't work.'

Thanks!  I will try to get to it.

I am irritated at that computer.  A new computer shouldn't act up like that.

She has called the Best Buy techs and they were no help.  They just tell her to reboot manually when she gets the white screen!

grrrr

I don't have much time here to work on it.  I leave for Sweden in 12 days!  I might be able to get back to her house next week, but I don't know for sure.

She may have to take it back and have them reformat.  But then I know they won't uninstall Norton and put on the things that she needs, such as adaware, spybot, spyware blaster and AVG.

grrr

Thanks for your help again!
