Yes, the restart was part of the process.

I forgot to include before the Apple is no longer supporting QuickTime so that is another program you can uninstall.

You may also want to remove a few programs from startup.  That won't remove the programs but it will result is less processes running which will result in less memory in use rather than the 83% your log showed.  For example, do you need Skype running at startup or can you launch it when you wish to use it?  What about VAIO Care, ShopAtHome.com Helper, Office and other programs?  With Windows 10, it is easy to remove programs from startup.  Just launch Task Manager and select the Startup tab.  Under Status, change Enabled to Disabled.  If you are unsure about disabling a program at startup, don't hesitate to ask if it is ok first.

Now, to clean up the tool/log, Please download Delfix from here.

Ensure the following boxes are checked:
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge system restore

  • Click Run
The program will run for a few moments and then notepad will open with a log.   Please paste the log in your next reply.

Any questions?

How do I get to the task manager? I used ctrl+alt+delete and clicked on startup but didn't see any of the programs you mentioned to disable. Is there another method? Thank you!

With Windows 10, there is a bunch of ways to get to Task Manager.  The easiest is to right-click the task bar and select Task Manager.  Another way is to right-click the Windows icon in the left corner and it will be one of the options.  You can also open the Control Panel and search for Task Manager or even type Task Manager in the search box.

Ok. I checked again and none of these programs are listed on the startup menu: Skype, VAIO Care, ShopAtHome.com Helper, Office and other unnecessary programs. I think my taskbar is okay. How was my last report? Is my computer virus or malware free? Is there anything else I should do? Thanks.

No sense spending too much time since I know you're planning on getting a new computer.  However, after thinking about it, I'd like you to run one more tool.

Please download Adware Cleaner and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on AdwCleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator
  • The tool will start to update the database, please wait a bit.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin.  Please be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

Excellent!  I'm glad I had you run that.

Something you may want to consider in addition to uninstalling Adobe Reader (which will a security update on Tuesday, February 13) is Unchecky.   It automatically unchecks the boxes that allow companies to install promotional crapware on your computer and issues warnings if you accidentally agree to install something you may not want.  Unchecky - Keeps your checkboxes clear.  This will help when you miss unchecking the "unwanted extras" included with software you install.
