Geowil,
I recommend you give Cacheman a try,( I use it and have done so for a few years now)
Quote
What can I do with Cacheman?

Optimize your Disk Cache, Name and Path Cache, CD-Rom Cache, and Icon Cache to speed up your computer
Periodically recover memory
Tweak several system settings to improve performance
Watch and monitor several important system values within Cachman's graphical user interface, including the computer system Overview page, History Graph, Logging, and Tray Icon.
Create system configuration reports
and do you us ea spyware scanner ie:Ewido Security Suite or Ad-aware SE Build 106 if so can you scan and post the log file.

i would do so if my comp would not freeze so fast.  its happening alot more now.  like every 15 min it will freeze then when i start it up it will freeze in the start up prossess about 4 times till it can get back into windows  :(  somehting is very bvery wrong with it lol, also i noticed erlier that i was getting attacked by someone who was sending my comp a worm virus, and i got their ip :muahaha: but ya, if i can get my comp to even run long enough then i will get the logs up and try this cache man thing.

ok lets see can you please download
HijackThis
After you have downloaded  it and Unzipped it, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and then can you please post you Logfile in the
HijackThis Logs  forum.
Call it some thing like "my HijachThis log" in the Topic Title
and then put "referred by GR@PH;<'S" as the Topic Description
Also Please can you include a link to this post for reference

also can you let us know how you get on

Geowil :)

Are you able to start the system in safe mode ?
You do this by during the startup process, immediately tap the F8 key until a b/w screen appears where you navigate with the arrow keys, choose "Safe mode without internet connection" and hit enter.
In safe mode, run HiJack This.
If your computer doesn´t stay stable long enough for a download, download it and add it to a CD on the computer that works and run it from the CD on the corrupt machine.

i just noticed something (running my comp with a side panel off incase its overheating) but the first few times i try to restert my comp after its frozen, the HD's dont kick on (no high-pitched screching noise issues from them) but on the 3rd or 4th try they do.....  does this mean theres something wrong with the connections?  or are my hard drives going bad?  ill get that highjack this log up asap.

Geowil :)

I did some reading on the problem you described, found this thread that started in September 2004 and has the last post of today:
http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31874/?o=0

After reading it, I really don´t know what to suggest. This error could be,as it seems, related to just about anything.
I suggest you read the thread yourself and see if any of the remedies suggested there is applicable to your problem.

Regards

i think the problem was that my 200 gig hd got fed up somehow, because even with the new install of win xp it would mess up, so i just got int my comp and switched the slave/master cable to backwards and now my computer works fine from my 80 gig hd....  :( i dont know what to do about the 200 gig one though, something really really weird happened to it.  anyway problem solved for now  :gwave:
