Messenger Service
« on: October 22, 2005, 10:16:59 PM »
I am getting this annoying popup....I would like for it to stop.  It comes up no matter what I do on the pc.  The pop up blocker usually takes care of it, but it is something that I would like to stop, and figure out what it means and what is causing it to come up.

It says the following...........

Messenger Service

Message from SYSTEM to ALERT on 10/22/2005 6:06:25 PM

STOP!  WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

Windows has found 47 CRITICAL SYSTEM ERRORS!

To fix the errors please do the following:
1.  Download Registry Repair from: www.fixnow.net
2.  Install Registry Repair
3.  Run Registry Repair
4.  Reboot your computer
FAILURE TO ACT NOW MAY LEAD TO DATA LOSS AND CORRUPTION!

***************************************************

What is this??  Is it some type of spyware or malware or something like that?

btw...this is Skittles here working on Kaloho's pc, before I leave for Sweden.

I am actually getting several of these messages up constantly!

This last one says...

These errors can lead to computer crashes, instability, slowness, and full system failure.

Immediate repair may be required.

See help file at:  www.spw3.com

another one says this

Urgen notice from MSOFT

There is no end to these things.

I KNOW not to do what it is telling me, so no worries there.  But I would like to know how to get rid of this for her.

I am assuming that this happens only while connected to the internet.  Since your HJT log is being reviewed in another thread (although nothing major jumped out at me, it may to someone else), let's clean out all the temp files because something is causing those popups.

Download CCleaner from the link at the upper right of this page: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner.html .

Instructions for using CCleaner:

1. Before first use, check under Options > Advanced > UNcheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours".
2. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
3. To protect logon cookies that you wish to retain, under Options > Cookies.  Select and using the arrow move those cookies to the "Cookies to keep" column.
4. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:

Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:

Clean all in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

5. Click the "Run Cleaner" button and it will scan and clean your system.
6. Click exit.
7. Shutdown/restart the computer.

Take a walk through the "Security Garden" -- Where Everything is Coming up Roses!
