One more thing is the report above showed powered on like 689 days. Is that your USB backup drive? Run the test again with the USB backup drive disconnected, and see what it shows as number of powered days. A new drive shouldn't show very much use at all, however if it is used it would show a multiple number of days powered on.

I'm here again, with my old hard disk, with 1050 errors.

The ''new'' one died. The computer can't even log in the Windows!

Two critical questions:

1. How can I wipe the disk before I return it? When it was in the computer, the computer could not boot from the usb with the Windows OS.

2. I will order another one... I just want to confirm if this one is 7200 RPM, and also if it is ok for my computer, because in the photo it looks different from the other disks I have seen: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-HTS721010A9E630-Travelstar-7K1000-Internal/dp/B00B4QESVQ/ref=sr_1_10?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1455467192&sr=1-10&keywords=SATA+III+7200+hard+drive+2.5

You needed to change your boot order or I believe you can select which drive to boot from by taping F12 at the Dell initial screen and then select which drive you want to boot from. If it's dead than you probably aren't going to be able to do anything with it.

The drive you are looking at is compatible, again your choice, the reason it looks different is because their showing the inside of the hard drive without a cover. It doesn't have to be a Hitachi (2-year warranty), as I said Seagate(2-year warranty) and I prefer Western Digital (3-5 year warranty) are still good hard drives. More information on the drive here.

Hi, Techie.

I searched a lot and I found that the one I referred to before has better specifications than others (32mb cache vs 16mb). Also, I prefer buy an item from Europe, as if from US I will have to pay additional taxes (I already paid 14 euros extra, for the one I received, because it came from Israel and I didn't think that this is not Europe! ). When searched in eBay, I found some good disks from US, and from Amazon I only found these WD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_ex_p_72_0?rh=n%3A340831031%2Cn%3A428655031%2Cn%3A430502031%2Cn%3A430527031%2Ck%3Ahard+drives%2Cp_n_size_browse-bin%3A187141031%2Cp_89%3AWestern+Digital%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A3475082031%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A2832266031%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A2718971031&keywords=hard+drives&ie=UTF8&qid=1457193322.  That's why I ended my research with Hitachi. It was not purposely. :)

If you say that it is ok, I will order it and I will wait... How many possibilities I have to get a broken one, again?  :(

As for the other one, yes, I already have the computer to boot from the usb, but when I press the start button, it stucks to the Windows logo icon, whether I have the usb inserted or not. Do you think is safe to return it without wiping it first?

I looked at the UK initially as well for you, the one you are looking at is sold buy a individual or company, but is fulfilled by Amazon. Amazon ships it and you are under there return policy if you have any problems. I think it is 15 to 30 days to request a return, after receipt. The drive should be fine. Odds would be slim that it would have the same problems.

The new drive is dead and that is probably why Windows is hanging.  I doubt anyone is going to try and recover it, if they do it will be formatted in the process.

I have a question about your return, did the seller tell you it would be four days? Was the return requested through ebay? Normally Ebay will provide return shipping as soon as the seller accepts the return, you print it out package it and ship it. I don't know if the seller is putting you off.

A dead drive, I would be asking where my money is?

The request was done through eBay, but also I sent the seller a message. The seller didn't answer, but I got this from eBay:

''The Seller accepted a return for the product. You should receive a return shipping label by March 8. Just print the label and send the item back to the seller.''

That's why I'm waiting my money back. If not, I will contact eBay again...

OUFFFF.....  ???

Hi, my LzD Friends!

I installed the NEW disk early in the afternoon (I order it with the express option), and now I'm trying to install all my programs in it. The installation was successful, and everything seems to be OK, after a long period of time!

Now, I have to contact eBay again, because I have not yet received the return label from the Seller. I hope that everything will be ok with this case, as well.

After all, and in a topic with ... 9 pages (!), I would like to express my gratitude to ALL who tried to help me.

Especially I would like to thank Techie and Satrow, because their help was priceless. Of course, I thank Corrine for her interest throughout the process, and her suggestion to post in Sysnative.

I apologize for being so demanding, and I wish you all the best in your personal lives!

THANK YOU!!!

Panos

P.S. This is not my last post-topic. Wait for the next one.

I'm glad the hard drive issue is resolved. I would open a resolution up with ebay asking for a full refund. The seller doesn't seem to be willing to do what they agreed to.  Just ask ebay to refund the purchase. You didn't receive an item as described.

If they want to pay to have a bad drive returned to them, it's on them, not you.

And this is the ... official end of the story, I suppose. I just received an email from Paypal, that the seller sent me the refund of the broken disk.  :D

What a topic!!!  ;D

Thank you all, again!

At least it was a happy ending!   ;D
You had a bad hard drive and replaced it with another that also turned out to have problems. Then you got a hard drive that gave you a fully working laptop again and will get a refund for the bad replacement hard drive from eBay.

It was a whole new learning experience, school of hard knocks ;)

The seller on ebay misrepresented what they were selling, that is why ebay has a good buyer protection, to weed out bad sellers or protect you and there reputation. It is really better than Amazon when it comes to dealing with third party sellers. A major amount of third party sellers are selling the same thing at both sites.

Now you know how to change your hard drive. You can now change your keyboard or mouse pad because the steps are the same except you remove a cable, for each. Most hard drives are easier to get to than your Dell was. A couple of screws on the bottom panel and your there.

Yes, now I know! Bring me your computers!  ;D

Anyway, THANK YOU, Teachers of LzD!
