Hi Friends,

I am new to this forum, if any mistakes please forgive me but give me solution :)

I am having a Desktop,

Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 2.40ghz,
2 GB RAM (1GB + 1GB--- Both are New Transcend DDR2)
80 GB HD
Windows7

#####
These days, i am facing a problem with my desktop..... It was restarting for every 2 hours or less than.
I am using Avast anti-virus with good updates everyday.
To solve this issue,
1) I had formatted my system and had a fresh copy of OS (Windows7), but no use :( :(
2) I cleaned my CPU (unplug and cleaned RAM, HD, Cables everything), but no use :( :(
3) I had removed one RAM (As i had mentioned, i am using 1GB+1GB), means now my CPU have 1 RAM, but no use :( :(

So, can you please guys suggest me how to quit from this problem....
Will be awaiting for your response.

Thanks for your efforts in advance :)

Is your computer still under warranty?  If so, I'd call the manufacturer and get them involved before you do something on your own that might possibly void your warranty.

Was the computer running just fine for a while, and the random re-boots suddenly/recently started?

If this is a hardware problem, unfortunately almost anything could be the culprit.  While you had the computer case open, did you notice that the fans were all running properly?  Does the power supply overheat?

Hi Winchester73,

It was not under warranty, it's almost 4 years completed. Computer was working fine for that time (reboots for every 2 hrs, right... rest of the time works properly) and even in taht 2 hrs i will be downloading soem movie too
Rebooting works exactly for every 2 hours :(
I hope, mostly its an hardware problem, My Computer case will always be open (one side of CPU is open every time, to overcome the over heat)
If my guess was right, SMPS will be the culprit(I am not sure) :(

First, what is SMPS, and second, does the system bugcheck (blue screen) when it reboots, or does it just reboot?

It might be bugchecking.  Check to see if the system is set to automatically restart.  http://malektips.com/windows-7-system-failure-restart-automatically.html has information on this.  (Note:  the third-party link I provided is provided as a courtesy and does not imply endorsement by Microsoft.)

Does the system, upon rebooting, come up and inform you that the system just restarted unexpectedly and ask if you'd like to submit a report to Microsoft?  If so, chances are, there'll be something logged here in Event Viewer.  Check the Event Viewer in Control Panel (just search for "view event logs" in the search box, that'll pull it up, assuming the system is English-EN) to see if you can find a log of the restart event.  It'll be under Windows Logs | System and you'll know you're near a restart when the source is Kernel-General and the message is "The operating system started at system time (something)".  Around that event might be some useful info.

The other option is to rule out bad RAM, although I'd look to see if the system is bugchecking first.  We have RAM testing software, called Windows Memory Diagnostic, available for download at http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp - you can burn a bootable CD or, should you still have these, make a bootable floppy.  After booting it up, I'd press T to enable the enhanced testing mode, and then let it run for a few passes to see if any errors are found (they'll be logged at the bottom, so no need to stare at it).  If, after a couple passes, there's no errors logged, I'd think the RAM is ok.

And with that my friends, I go back into the shadows...

Are you running the release candidate of Windows 7?

If so, see this:  http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/2010/02/windows-7-rc-expiration-approaches.html
