Network Cable Unplugged after doing recovery
« on: January 24, 2010, 11:26:52 PM »
I hope I'm in the right spot for this problem.

I did a complete factory restore to an emachine T2984 using the Restore disk.  This emachine is wireless, it has an Intel Network Adapter and it connected to my main computer that has the modem and router hooked up to it.  The laptop computers in the home work fine and this emachine was connected until I did the recovery.  The problem is, Network cable unplugged.  I have taken out the network adapter and moved it to different slots but when I turn the computer back on, in the tray is the 2 little computers with an X on them.  I can't view available connections I'm assuming because it's saying that it's unplugged.  I hope this is something dumb I'm overlooking but I don't know what else to try.....I even did another recovery thinking that I missed a step.  Oh, I also disabled it and enabled it.

And just thought of it, when the computer restarted it came up with New hardware wizard for Network Controller.  I'm not sure what that is either.  Plain and simple, I'm horrible when it comes to modems, routers and network adapters etc.

Could someone please help?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, just wanted to give more info.  The name of the network adapter is Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection, I checked under Device Manager and it says the device is working properly and there is no X or any other sign near it under the Device Manager. Thanks!

Did you reinstall the network adapter driver for the card. That may be an issue although device manger says it's working??  Usually after a recovery those drivers need to be reinstalled from disk or from the manufactures site.

Have you tried unplugging the modem and router for 30 seconds. Then replug the modem in wait for lights to come up. Then plug in router.

Hi, thank you for the quick reply.  I tried unplugging the modem and the router a couple times and that didn't work, I did it the same way you described.

If there is a disk for the network adapter, I have no idea what happened to it.  It was a miracle that I came across the recovery cd.   Since I can't get on the internet to get to the manufactures website, could I download it to this computer and put it on a ScanDisk card and put the scandisk card in the emachine and do it that way?? If that won't work, do you know of any other ways I could try?  Thank you!

The other thing you could try is go back to device manger, right click the network adapter choose uninstall, now reboot the computer windows will now find New hardware and try to reinstall the network adapter.

Are there possibly 2 network adapters installed, sometimes that can happen too.

You also may want to Google "Network cable unplugged"

The reason you are getting this message is that you nolonger have the eithernet cable plugged into the  Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection socket, As you use wireless.
You can right click on the Network icon (the 2 little computers)  and un-tick the show in taskbar when unpligged/connected, that way you will no longer get the error.

Thanks for the replies.  Gr@PH you make it sound so easy that I wish it was! LOL.  I have no internet connection on that computer.  I'm going to try and uninstall it through Device Manager and reboot the computer in hopes that the computer will recognize it as new hardware because it worked before I did the recovery so I'm hoping its something simple like this.  I'll post back soon!

Got it working.  It was the linkysys wireless adapter that was wiped out when I did the recovery.  I was able to find the download on their site for the software and drivers and downloaded it onto a sd card and installed.  Thank you for all the quick reply's and suggestions!
