No Sound On Computer
« on: December 25, 2010, 09:00:20 AM »

Merry Christmas to all!

I've had no sound on my laptop for several months (actually, NEVER since I've had it), and have tried many suggested fixes, but to no avail.
This is an Asus M51S 15.4" Notebook, donated to the charity I work for, about 3 months ago. I had to replace the motherboard recently, and had hoped that would fix the problem, but no. Strangely, at startup, the ASUS logo is accompanied by its musical tinkle, but after that, nothing. So it's not the speakers.
I would be grateful for any and all suggestions!

Regards,
Shax

Here is a thread of my previous attempts to remedy the problem...

Shax,
Try reinstalling the sound card driver
if need be ask a friend to download it to a usb stick for you.

weird - no sound here too.
===not my pc===

2006 acer acerpower fh
realtek audio.
windows xp media center edition.  (the acer site shows it may have come with xp pro or home...)

uninstalled something called black cherry sound (???) which was a trial, must register to use, so i uninstalled...
and when played a sound, a 1 time error message referring back to that program.  could not reproduce.

uninstalled realtek driver.
reinstalled it (downloaded from acer site.)

no sound.

am running kaspersky rescue (bootable) disk (v10) now.;

the application event log was flooded with crypto32 errors, windowsupdate.com - site not found.

looks like this os is hosed, but will see about the sound and let you know what i hear... ha.

I just ran across this tutorial so am posting it for future reference:  No sound in Windows.

If indeed your motherboard sound card is fried then the only way i can see you getting sound is by fitting a
sound card
They start from as little as £7 (NEW)
