PC crashed, freezes on reboot
« on: December 05, 2005, 12:01:02 PM »
This is a different computer then the one I am working on currently with DieHard in the HJT logs.

While I was here at my friends house working on the laptop that Diehard is helping me with on the HJT log, one of their computers froze up on them.

They were copying and burning their favorite songs off their cds, and putting their favorites on to another cd.  During this the pc froze up or crashed, and they tried to reboot.  They had to manually reboot, but now the pc will not boot up.  It will get to the window where you select which user you want to boot up as, but it is at this point that we cannot do anything.

The mouse does not respond, even trying to click O for OK does not work, and ctrl alt del wont work to reboot either.  I have to manually reboot each time and it just brings me back to the same place with the same problem.

I have not personally worked with this computer before, because they were not ready for me to do "my thing" with it.  It is a fairly new computer for them (used), they had to put in their old hard drive to copy the files over and then they switched the hard drives around when they were done.  Not sure exactly what they did or was doing, since they couldnt explain it to me well enough in English.

So I don't know much about this pc.

I tried to get it into Safe Mode but couldn't but I didn't try more then once.  I might have missed the time to press the F8.

Any ideas or suggestions?

skittlespc,
Now this may not be the case but is there a CD / DVD Floppy Disk or any other devise  (Memory stick) still in there slot/place
as if one is left in the PC/Laptop it can cause an error like the one that you are experiencing  :sos:

No floopy, no cd or dvd in either driver.

I don't see any memory stick slot with anything in it....so I don't think that is the issue.

I still could not get into Safe Mode.  When I got to black screen I tapped the F8 severl times, and got the white cursor at the top, and it sounded like it was thinking about it, but then eventually I would get the desktop showing with the window to select which user.
