Save personal messages
« on: September 08, 2018, 02:47:50 PM »
Hello.
I would like to know if there is a way to save some personal messages. It seems that the space for my messages is full (104%) and I have to delete them to free space I suppose. I am using a tablet and I can’t find a way to save what I want.
Thank you.

Hi, Ria.

Probably too late, but one option for PMs you want to be sure to save would be to save the email notices of the PMs you receive in a folder created in your email account.

Thank you, but I’m sorry, I didn’t understand how to do this. For the moment I deleted some of them.

Sorry, with Outlook mail, folders are created (see How to Create Folders to Organize Mail in Outlook).  If you use Gmail, then you create labels (see Create labels to organize Gmail - Computer - Gmail Help).  So, with Outlook, you would move the email to the folder you created.  With Gmail, you would click on the "Move to" tab  in the top navigation and click the label where you want to save the PM you received.

When a PM is sent to you, you should receive a notice in your email account (Outlook, Gmail, but if a different carrier, sorry, no help from me :) .)  The Sender of the email will show as "LandzDown Forum" and the subject will show as "New Personal Message".  The content of the message will be as follows (edited, of course to remove the actual name/message):

Quote
You have just been sent a personal message by "sender's name" on LandzDown Forum.

IMPORTANT: Remember, this is just a notification. Please do not reply to this email.

The message they sent you was:

text of the message

Reply to this Personal Message here: {link to message}

If you use Outlook, move the email notice to the folder you created.  For Gmail, move the notice to the Label you created.  That way, if there are PMs that you want to save, you won't be limited by the amount of space available in the forum Messages. Unfortunately, that won't work with PMs you send to others.

Hope that helps.

I just checked:

What didn't work:
If you didn't have your messaging preferences set to receive Email notifications. changing it now will not produce notifications for old/existing messages. Presumably, you'd get notifications starting with the next new message.

What did work...
Set preferences for email notification.
Copy and Paste the contents of the messages you wish to save into one or more new message(s).
Send the message(s) to yourself.
Wait an appropriate period for the mail account in your Landzdown profile, and then check it.
Keep it in a safe place.

When you're satisfied that you have everything important, feel free to empty you Landzdown message boxes.

BTW: I'm referring to MESSAGING NOTIFICATION preferences, not the forum preferences.

Again, with email message notifications on (set to "Always"):

If you want a separate email/file for each message, you can save yourself the trouble of all the copy/paste by opening each message separately and clicking "Quote".

Delete the name of the original sender or receiver.

Put your screen name in the "To" field.

Send it..... Wait for it to get to your email inbox.

Delete it from your Landzdown inbox and also from the "sent" folder. or you'll fill up your message boxes again.

I'm doing something else (but using a computer, not a tablet). Delete all the messages I don't want to keep, and then: File > Save Page as (Web page complete). Then I delete everything in the Forum's Inbox and start again.

I could do this for anyone who trust me that I won't read his/her personal messages.  ;)
Nothing...
